Knocking noise

I was driving to LA the other day when it was raining and suddenly I felt something knocking from under my car. You could also feel it from under you. I slowed down and went to the nearest exit and pulled to a gas station. I was thinking my wheels were loose, so I tightened the lug nuts. Tight as can be. I went back on the freeway and it didn't do it anymore. I was going back home when it did it again. This time when it happened, it felt like I was losing power, I pressed the gas but the car didn't accelerate like it should. I again felt the knocking from beneath the car. It was scary. It never did this when it wasn't raining, only when it rains.

What's wrong??

It's a 96 s14 by the way.

Stock intake or aftermarket intake? If aftermarket intake do you have a cold air extension on it? Did your Check Engine Light come on? What kind of tires are you running on your car? Do you have tread on them or not? How fast were you going when you heard the knocking noise? Was it constant only at one speed or varied with your speed?
There can be several dozen reasons for the cause of this problem. You're gonna have to give us more info...

PS:
Almost forgot..."It never did this when it wasn't raining, only when it rains", you mean you've had this problem before?? if so for how long??

I have a regular Injen intake on, not the cold air. No CEL on. I'm running Falken GR-B FK451s and have 50% tread left. I was going around 60mph, it was when I was over 60mph when it happened, nothing at lower mph. What I meant by that is it never did the knocking noise before, when it wasn't raining. Now that it's raining here, it acts up on me. I drove on the freeway this morning when it was pretty dry and no noise. It's never happened to me before, just this week.

When the knocking sound came, I felt (or I think it was just in my head since I was scared) a loss of power, like the car wouldn't accelerate as usual.

The noise was coming from underneath the car. Scary stuff.

dude! i was with twinkie in the car and this exact thing happend...we couldnt figure out wat the hell was going on. by the way, twinkie has an s13 fastbaCK w/ sr20, about 20% thread in the front wheels, and 10% IN THE BACK. (I KNOW ITS PRETTY BAD BUT WE HAD NO CHJOICE). but yeah, we jacked the car 3 times to check it and nopthing! it keeps happening on and off. felt like a cone stuck onder the car and we were dragging it. do you think it could be a transmission problem??

by the way it was also raining....it neverl happened before that, and when it stopped raining the car went back to normal.

it was a hell of a night...i pulled over rigth on 17 half way to santa cruz, and checked under the car with a flashlight while the sky was falling down to my face, and i couldnt see a damn thing. fucking asshole weather makes everything harder...gAY man...

Yea, but the knocking sound had a particular "tempo," as in the time between knocks was the same. I don't think water can have that rhythm.
