lifter tick?
so after running my engine really hard at high rpms, it ticks. it goes away a little bit afterwards. i was told it was lifter tick, and my friend who had the same problem (and same engine) said when he changed his oil from 10w40 to 10w30 it made it go away. im running 10w30 tho
![]() its an SOHC engine with 170k, just redid my timing chain (it did it before that as well). what do you all think? thanks -mark

I get this problems sometimes too, its a lifter getting stuck..i usually goes away on my car too. I think changing the oil pump may help..maybe its going out and you dont get as much oil to the head...worth a shot...i just deal with it im just waiting til this motor goes to swap so im riding it out LOL still runs strong and wont go 260k miles on it...KAs are solid.

Hydraulic lifters are very susceptable to failure due to lack of lubrication. Make sure you are using the correct oil specified.
Your lifter tick could be a couple of things: 1. Dirt or wear in the lifter check valve. 2. Low oil pressure or excessive wear between the lifter body and its plunger. 3. Or you could have air in your oil from the crackcase being overfilled. 4. Maybe sticking due to varnish from imporper maitenace.
