Ok I was with one of my Friends up at Toyota and we were just looking through the used lot for no real reason and I see this 99 red Lude and ask to have the keys.... I fig, hey i have never driven one and every one on the board says, stock it should beat a KA. So i took it out for a quick spin i guess you could call it. Im sorry but for a 5spd 195hp 4 banger I would excpect soooooooooooooooooo much more. It was slow as hell untill about 5,600 rpms and then you could feel the jerk kick in. Still there is no way that the stock 99 can beat our KA's. It really sucked to becuase I always thought they were more then what I got. My friend has a 98 V6 accord and beats the hell out of them. Guess i know why now.....

No the stock 99 Prelude 5 speed would tear any stock KA 240 a new one. It's also faster then the V6 Accord. The Prelude is only marginally slower then the ITR.

It's all in your head about how slow the Prelude is. You have high expectations, if that ONE drive doesn't meet them, you're disappointed. Thus disappointment leads to the belief that the car is slow. I assume you drive a 240SX (duh). They naturally have excellent low end, as well as mid range power and pretty crappy top end, whereas the H22A in the Honda Prelude has an "eh.." low end and a kick ass top end. It's the torque dude. You're just used to the powerband on your own car and the different powerband on a Honda Prelude isn't something to your liking or it's just something you're not used to. HOWEVER, Preludes will leave 240SX's in the dust on top end and pull out.

I have to agree that a stock 99 Prelude will be a KA, because I got smoked by one . We were both on the highway and I decide to pull up beside him. He looked at me and I looked at him and it was on. At first we were side by side. But then out of nowhere he began to pull way ahead of me. I tried to catch up, but no matter what I do I'm at least one car length behind him. He even teased me and slowed down so I can catch up to his bumper, then *bam* he dips away from me just like that. With a couple of mods I know I'll get a Prelude , but I really want to get a Mustang GT.

umm, yeah.
I own a 97 Prelude SH right now, gonna sell it for a 97 240sx and do the swap, but anyways, the Prelude would smoke a ka anyday. I can pull off a 14.6 with only intake/exhaust and cam gears. I don't think a ka comes close to that with the same mods.

or maybe you can't drive.. lol
i seen new ludes jump off the line and stick with ITRs
the 98 V6 accords are kinda fast too (mostly closer to top end), but man they can't even come close to the speed off the line that a lude brings.. your friend must by sprayin lol....

I think this maybe be your fault becuz your looking for so much from a stock honda.... hey atleast it boost my ego

I have been with my friend in his V6 and there has never been a lude Auto or 5spd that could take him... They are a great race but they cant take him for shit. About the hole cant drive thing, its what ever you want to think. I have been into racing sense i was 11 when i started with 2 stroke go carts and then on and on and on. Also about the hanging off the line bit, I could make a stock 150hp 2000 accord hang with a new lude off the line and beat one SI all way through untill fourth. Alot of cars can HANG off the line. Doesnt make them fast. Oh well IMO the car wasnt any thing to brag about. my friends 99 GS-R feels much faster. But I guess thats an H22A vs. a B18c. Which is weird becuase the H22A has 195hp and the B18c has 180hp. OH well.

ludes whore what are you talking about and that power peak feels awsome...getting pinned in your seat. i saw a lude run a 15.2 stock and the h22 is in that tube frame civic that runs low 8's. the AEM civic. those engines have awsome top end. ive ridden in a modded prelude and we whooped on a type r and some other cars (lost to a 300zx and lost to one of the 3 5.0's we raced) i was gonna buy a prelude till i found out about the price...no thanks. plus im very happy with my descision

97-98 preludes 195hp
99+ prelude 200hp

I used to have a 99 5spd. Fun fun car, but I wanted rwd again and more power. I did race a few S13's and won but never ran a s14.

THeres no way a V6 accord could take a 5 speed prelude. And the V6 only came in auto anyways didnt it? Ive raced both, the V6 accord from a stand still. I took him off the line and expected him to get the jump on me when his VTEC kicked in but he never got closer then a car length to me. The race with the Prelude was much closer (not sure if it was 5 speed or auto) even though this was on the freeway. He managed to stay very even with me till about 120ish and even then im not sure if he let off or what because it was very close.

Wonder if the Prelude you drove was not putting out as much hp as it should have?

no the prelude is not slow as hell, if it is, a stock 240sx is even slower than hell. The preludes has damn good amount of torque for a honda motor (156ft/lbs vs. 160 on a 240sx). I actually pulls pretty well, until up to 4500rpm, then it really get up and goes... .

I do love my 240sx, but the prelude has to be one of my favorite FWD cars. Our family had one for 12 years, and it served us damn well (until I totalled it.)

I agree, i wouldnt mind trading up for a Prelude at all, its a good car, yet underestimated because it's a Honda. a 240sx just cant keep up unless there is a huge sum of money spent on it (i.e. turbo or SR20), and the H22A motor is the only honda 4cyl with torque (I would talke lude over an ITR anyday).

The Prelude is a good car, it's one of my favorite Hondas (the S2000 is the other one). But just like the 240SX, the car wasn't selling all that while and they decided to drop it from the lineup.

I heard the upcoming Accord coupe will take its place.
