I wanted a sony laptop but the 1699+ prices just weren't appealing. got a dell 700m a few weeks ago for around $760 or 780 shipped (easy $750 off 1499 coupon). 1.6GHz/256MB/60GB/DVDburner/8cell battery. 8 cell battery is a must for a 700m if you want the awesome 5 hour+ battery life. you can wait until they have another one of those coupons or a 35% off one and get a loaded 9300 for a desktop replacement if you dont want an ultraportable.
if you buy from dell buy the smallest amount of RAM possible. they overprice RAM so much that its better to buy some from newegg or someplace and upgrade yourself. also people say the 700m can't play games, but it plays older games fine (like command and conquer generals, basically the only game I have) goto http://www.notebookforums.com and read the reviews of stuff. that site was very helpful when I was buying a laptop. |

For those who don't know...here is the trick to good service with Dell. NEVER buy from Dell Home, always buy Dell Small Business. Your shit breaks they will next day you parts, etc. It is like night and day.
Back to laptops... Never had a Dell laptop so can't speak to it. Fujitsu used to be crap, although my friend says good things about their tablet PCs (which I want real bad right now). Thinkpads can be pricey but mine lasted forever when I was in school.
