his motor is blown, so i want to sell him the engine so he can install it. the thing is that nissan pickups up to 97 (they had the 4 cyl models up to 1997, i believe) are carbuerated (sp?) and i was wondering if anybody has swapped a 240 engine into one. thanks

Think about what you're saying. How can a KA24E be carburated?

and this is a tech question

my mistake. the engine in a nissan pickup is a ka24, it is not fuel injected like ours, it just has a really ugly big black box that has a pipe that goes accross the engine bay like ours intake does. it has no MAF, thats the only difference i know off the bat. but either way what i'm really concerned with is if it will work or not, considering his is a 4x4, but i can use his transmission i am guessing. any help appreciated, thanks

I am not positive about all this but you might want to try and message chickenmanq since he has a hardbody and appears to know a lot about them

There is no such thing as a "KA24". It's either KA24E or KA24DE. The KA24E was used in the trucks up until '97. And, yes, obviously, it *is* fuel injected. C'mon, nobody was still using carburetors in '94.

Hehe, carbed KA.

"The 1990 Subaru Justy was the last car sold in the United States to have a carburetor."

- Howstuffworks.com

I thought the KA was still available in the Frontier up through last year.

As for fitment, are you swapping the transmissions too? I think the truck tranny might be different than the 240's.

I should've added that the KA24DE was available starting in '98.

Hardbody pickups came with throttle body injection .
It is basically a hybrid carb injection setup.
Hardbody trucks had heavier flywheels with larger clutch surfaces and the engines were setup for more torque and less horsepower.
the ratings are 154 ft Lbs torque and 135HP

former owner of a 90 Hardbody

oh yeah the V6 was an option starting in 90 and Hardbodys were the most powerful trucks in their class period 4 cylinder or V6

Yes I still have a place in my heart for my trusty Hardbody.

yah i owned a hardbody also... i didnt know they werent carbuerated actually, but this hybrid thing makes sense. sorry for the mistake. yes hardbodies are very powerful. i asked a guy at 4x4parts.com about the swap and his reply that yes it would be a direct swap, but we would have to use the hardbody transmission linked up to the 240sx engine, because our trannys are a little longer.

Mine was an 84, so I just missed out on the hardbody, but man I loved that truck. I put 35k miles on it and only changed the oil once (I was 16..come on! ). I had one problem and that was a valve that sends heat to the carbeurator was frozen so my carb would ice over during the winter. Total repair cost, $35.

I jumped that truck, took it off-road and it never gave me an ounce of trouble.

The engine you're talking about then is the Z24i-which wasn't available in the '90s.
