Drifting with HICAS steering rack. Do you get more steering angle?
I am thinking about getting a HICAS steering rack because I hate the numb steering feel and late response. I read threads about HICAS and HICAS steering rack eliminates the late response of steering input.
My question is how will this affect drifting? Will HICAS steering rack give me less steering angle? Even with aftermarket tie rod? |

The steering angle will be the same you just dont have to turn the wheel as many times to get to full lock.

You're crazy! HICAS steering steers all 4 wheels at the same time while the stock rack steers the 2 driving wheels!

The HICAS front rack is different than the stock rack... thats what he is getting at not that he wants to know if 4 wheel steering gives more angle/response.

if you combine the HICAS rack and have those nifty tie rod spacers, would that get rid of the "sluggishness" of the spacers? so you get more angle and almost stock response?

Super HICAS rack is the shit. I feel an obvious difference over the stock rack. Super HICAS rack, 17's, 350mm steering wheel, good tie rod ends, and a solid steering spacer is the HOT SHIT setup. My steering feels very m3'ish. Super responsive with no play in the steering. You won't get more anlge from a HICAS rack. You get that from tie rod spacers.

NOOOOO, the BEANS AND CANDY!!!
I guess the cats out of the bag. But know that tie rods and ends increase bumpsteer, which can be close to eliminated with proper suspension tuning IIRC. There are always pros and cons to suspension parts. You just gotta see which outweighs what. |

I have HICAS myself. Steering response is awesome. But I've been trying to drift with HICAS and its a little harder to recover from a drift when compared to a car with no HICAS. I have heard people drifting HICAS cars but does take alot of time, practice and patience.

Have run Hicas rack , love Hicas rack. Anyone who says its harder to drift with a Hicas rack= novice.
Honestly, a quicker steering ratio has its advantages, in drifting and in road racing. Quicker response times means more immediate input. To me thats a big advantage. I know where my wheels are going immediately . Less time trying to correct for input lag.
