R32 GTR and Z32 30mm Caliper Comparison and Question at the end.

Hello everyone,
I just got the R32 GTR calipers in. I have the Z32 Aluminums off the car as well so I can make the comparison. So here goes... Todo es especial (Everything is special).

Red = Z32 30mm Aluminum
Sliver = R32 30mm Aluminum

Top view
The opening is the same on both; 66mm

Piston View
It started at 15mm; app. 36mm on both as well

I didn't take the pic of the Z32 piston, but it measured the same.

Opening for the rotor
Same on both; App. 36mm

Height from bottom to top (not exact inches since the ruler's edge does not start with the first inch). Here is where the difference comes into play.

Z32 at 3 and 15/16 inches

R32 GTR at 4 and 2/16 inches

A difference of 4.76 millimeters. As you can see the measurement is not exact, but I will go by this figure. Since it is just the radius, the 4.76 millimeters difference would allow a rotor that is 9.52mm taller. Once I get one of those cool digital rulers I will get the exact figures.

Weight
They both weight pretty much the the same on my old scale; between 4 and 5 pounds.

I hated the silver that I tried to paint the calipers with, so I went out and bought something a little nicer and this is what I came out with.

So here is the question part.
I have these calipers that can take a bigger rotor. My issue is now, where can I get the rotor for these brakes? After reviewing the ultimate rotor thread I saw that the closest rotors are the ones for the early model Mitsubishi VR4. The later model ones might fit in there as well. Has anyone else done this before? Will I have to worry about the rotor not fitting in the rotor spacing of the caliper? I know I can go with the Z32 rotors, but I want to use these calipers to there fullest potential.

Wishing you all the best,
Carlos Doria

R32 GTR rotors, optimally.
They're not impossible to get, obviously.

I think the r32gtr and the r33 gts-t calipers are the same. The problem with the track series and the brackets is that the rotors will cut into the brake pad and leave about a 1-2mm lip on the edge, so the bracket is not using the brake pad to its fullest potential. Also it would push my caliper out even further. So the brackets need more work done to them.

Wishing you the best,
Carlos Doria

ps Mr. M how much are they where you are?

OK I actually got the Calipers and Rotors in Today... the hardware is comming on Friday.

Here are the Specs for the GTR R32 (Sumitumo) Caliper

Top Opening:
Across @ opening END - 69mm
Across @ opening CENTER - 73mm
Across @ Length - 120mm

Piston Dia.:
Approxiatly - 37mm (no micrometer)
19mm seperation between Pistons

Bottom Opening
Rotor Gap on Botom - 37mm
I also Noticed the Skyline models have added cooling channels on the inner Rotor Opening!

Height - 4 1/2 Inches

Some noticeable differences especially in Height and Piston Seperation.

Peace
Drew

There is a difference between Z32/R32/R32 GTS-T and R32GTR. 30mm x 280mm (same as Z32) vs 32mm x 296mm for the early R32's and 30mm x 324mm for the later ones (after 8/93 w/ Brembos)...these are the same for the R33 GTR and R34 GTR Brembos. The rears on these (the Brembos) are 20mm x 300mm vs the 16mm x 297mm on almost all other models Z32, R32, R33, R34 without Brembos.

The R33 GTS-T is right in the middle of the two at 30mm x 296mm

The R34 GT and R33 GTS-T are the same size, but the R34 GTT moves up to a 28mm x 310mm rotor in front, 8/98+

The EVO Brembos in comparison are 32mm x 320mm Front and 22mm x 300mm Rear.

I am running R33 GTS-T's....more than enough brake and much less than GTR's. Also if you are hunting ebay many of the GTR's are really not. Mine were supposed to be based on the auction ad.

Everything but the Brembos pretty much use identical brake parts and hardware as a Z32. Makes finding pads simple.

Check out www.dba.com.au, they have a lot of different rotors. Not sure if they have a two-piece though for Z32.

Do you have a particular need?
