Cant go online with router connected!

Another question for all you computer guys. I have a linksys router. It is a wireless-G if that matters. But anyways, when it is connected i cant seem to go online. But when i just plug the ethernet cable into the modem directly everything works fine. I tried the reset button on the back of the router to no avail. Is the router toast?

both my wireless routers kept dropping the IP. Try turning off the router, the modem, and the computer and reboot.

Good suggestion ^^

I bet something (wireless router or your computer) isnt configured properly. Check to make sure the wireless router is getting an IP from your cable/dsl modem. It should have a web (or USB) interface where you can check that stuff at. Then it should then be giving your computer an IP address (you should know how to check this in windows). If both of those things are happening then it's another issue and you'll have to employ ping and/or tracert commands to diagnose it further....

and of none of that works, try to get into your router from your computer. The IP address of a router is usually 192.168.0.1 type that into a web browser and see if you can log into the router. If not, your computer dosn't like the router and the problem is there. If yes, than maybe your modem dosn't like the router and you configure it!

Is it cable or DSL? If your running cable, once the router is plugged in, pull the power cord from the cable modem and wait a sec then plug back in. DHCP will need to get the mac address for the router. After that if your on xp you should be good to go after about 45 sec.

But 240meowth also has a point. 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 and no user name, just admin for password.

Then after you get the bugs worked out, use hacked firmware like me to boost signal to 3,--- radial feet, I think its dangerous, like cancer giving, but it's not at me house it just goes to it!
