Looking iinto a 89 240 and the owner says the engine shakes and misfires. Should I get a new head? Or is it something that could br fixed?

what you've told us is so general it could be any number of problems...

either get educated and start diagnosing it yourself or take it to a mechanic and pay $$$ to get his 'professional' opinion.
