I have a 1991 5speed Fastback, stock.
A few weeks ago my brakes started to squeak. I am not sure if it is all of them or just front and back. I am going to try new pads next weekend. Now I have a new noise. I get it mostly at low speeds where I can hear it better. It is like a squeak in the front even without brakes being applied. It happens slowing down, speeding up, and even turning. Sounds a bit different that the high pitched brake sqeuak. Anyone have ideas of what is cuasing this? Thanks, Jeff

Hey Jeff,
I had something worse than that...it was a scraping sound...the one you hear like when you take a gardening claw and scrape it on a chalkboard <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> Did the front and rear brakes and everything was AOK! |

If it's coming from the brakes, it's prolly the brake wear indicator. When your pads get too low, a piece of metal contacts the rotor and makes a godawful squeeking sound constantly. Replace the pads.

misnomer is right, I had the same thing happen, and I thought it was rocks stuck in my pads. But they were worn beyond belief. Get them replaced fast.

actually if its just the wear indicator that is on the brake pad you can just take that off, usually it starts squeaking way before the pads are worn enough to get knew ones...another thing is if they squeak while your on the brakes there is a substance your supposed to put behind the brack pads, i cant remember exactly what its called, something like no squeak or something, anyways, it usually comes with new brake pads, but you can buy it separate
