There is a weekend event at Summit Point, WV in June.  It is a High Performance Driving Education event.  This means that 1) you will be driving your own car; 2) you will have an instructor in car (unless and until you get signed off to run solo); 3) you can go as fast as you can; 4) you will need a car that will pass tech and an SA95 or newer helmet; 5) there will be other cars on the track; 6) there IS passing (on the straights, with a signal from the leading car); and 7) you WILL have a good time.

The cost looks like $289, but there may be discounts for multi-participant groups.  (I can get details if there are enough to matter).  Summit is about 1.5 hours from DC.  It is a real race track and speeds get really fast!

I recommend your car be in good shape and you have some good brake pads if you want to play.  Stockers will NOT make it though a weekend on this track.  If you are interested, leave me an email.  Post any questions you have now here and I will answer them or direct you to the proper authorities.  This event WILL sell out (early for the novice class).

Thats about 6 hours from me (i'm about as far south and east as you can go in VA...5 minuets from NC) I would love to go, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to afford it.  Would anybody there have a problem with me sleeping in the parking lot?  Cauz I might be able to afford it if I bring all my food and drink from home and sleep in the car...

Usually, they allow camping at the track - which is damn fun b/c many hardcore racers, both with tents and motorhomes the size of my apt., stay there.  Otherwise, I reckon Matt (uuninja) and I will get a hotel in "town."  Unless he minds, I'd say our floor is all yours.

I thought I'd TTT this since the registration will open this week.  Looks like a group discount ain't gonna happen, but drop me a line if you are interested.  I'll repost here when it closes.

Just to make sure I cover the bases:
1. &nbsp;If you are going to be one driver in one car (with one spectator - cannot ride in car w/ you), you pay one entry.
2. &nbsp;If you are going to be two drivers in one car, you will have to be in different run groups -- there is no trading sessions -- and you will pay two entries. &nbsp;(note - if you would both be in novice, this won't work)
3. &nbsp;Two drivers, two cars is two entries and you can be in the same run group.

Basically, you can't switch drivers (you do odd sessions, she does even). &nbsp;The closest thing to that is to have one person do one day and the other person do another (although this event is not likely to offer two one day sessions, I would think that the registrar might be willing to split your weekend days - as the point of only selling two day deals is to keep from having 160 cars on Sat. and 100 on Sun.). &nbsp;

In any event, registration is now open at NASA-VA. &nbsp;If you want to try to split your registration, email Elyse, the NASA registrar (linked at site). &nbsp;She's pretty cool.

I'm also interrested.... but i'll prolly have to stay at the track camp, since it'll be my last money <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> .... Another question, is $289 per day or for both days? Also will the crossdrilled rotors with stocks pads in the front, assuming i have axxis MM in the back, pass? Cuz they got enough thread left and i don't wonna just throw them away....

The $289 is for both days. &nbsp;I would double check w/ NASA that camping will be allowed before you commit. &nbsp;I know they are doing racing there and I know that they ususally allow it, but don't rely on that - make sure b/f you register. &nbsp;(ditto on the helmet if you don't have one)

As for the brakes, the fronts take the bulk of the abuse, so that isn't ideal. &nbsp;If you don't have a decent set (MetalMasters or better) up front, you will likely see them go quickly. &nbsp;IIRC, uuninja burned a set of generics to the backing plate at VIR in his first weekend. &nbsp;It should be fine... but I'd at least bring a set of spares.
