I was wondering, what componets are in an intake manifold needs and how it needs to be designed to work right. My dad has a metal shop and I have already figured out how to make a turbo exhuast manifold, but I was wondering if I could make an intake manifold too. Any ideas? Thanks.

N/A or Turbo? Turbo is easy, just weld stacks to a plenum and make sure it can handle the boost pressures. http://www.sdsefi.com/techinta.htm this place tells you how to do it and lists needed supplies.
N/A is another story. Here is where you would have to build a "tuned" manifold. Plenum volume and runner length, diameter, and shape all have to take into account resonance tuning and reversion for maximum potential power. You also need to take into account cam dimensions and timing as well as exhaust manifold design when you work on the intake manifold. In short it is possible, but to be truly successful you will need a very firm grasp on the workings on an N/A motor. |
