Q45 calipers @ Autozone include brackets???
I'm going to be upgrading to bigger front brakes shortly. I've priced all new and reman parts (Loaded calipers and rotors) and can do it for ~$150 assuming I can return the 240 stock brakes for core (235 w/o cores).
I have come across some threads where people have gotten Q45 calipers and they didn't come with the bracket portion which is used to actually attach the caliper to the car. I don't wan't to shell out for brakes I can't attach. So can anyone tell me for certain that the reman units @ Autozone or other parts houses do come with everything required? Specific brands would be helpful. I was looking @ a pair of Morse loaded front calipers for about $175 including core charge. I just need to know if they come with all that I need. Appreciate any feedback. Thanks. -Steve EDIT: Found a post on FA suggesting that LOADED calipers do include the brackets. I'd still like verification of this. all you need for the q45 to work is the COMPLETE caliper... I didn't have that bracket nonsense on my last 240... I ended up selling just the calipers and the guy who bought it installed it no problem.

I'm definitely going with the LOADED caliper. Meaning pads and bolts/hardware included. I just don't know if the hardware includes the bracket.
So I have OptionZero telling me it should and Phrozen says it won't?? From experience? I may have to just order it and see.... =Steve |

I think i'm wrong- the calipers from autozone do NOT have the brackets
I went to the Autozone, and there are separate listings for the ones without brackets and the one that comes with brackets- the one with brackets are listed as "not available". When I bought mine from Kragen, had q45 brakes from the junkyard as a core. Stupidly i turned in the brackets with the calipers, without realizing the rebuilt set didn't have brackets. I called infiniti dealerships and some local yards and none had brackets for me- i ended up having to buy awhole new bracket/caliper combo from the junkyard (They wouln't part the claiper from the bracket). Without the bracket you CANNOT mount the q45 calipers....i would get bracket/caliper from the junk yard, then turn in the calipers as a core for rebuilt calipers. |

OptionZero is right. VatoZone and Kragen remans WILL NOT include the brackets. Even the loaded ones. They are REQUIRED to install the calipers. The 240SX stock bracket WILL NOT work.
If you dont have the brackets, junkyard time. J30's are the same as phrozen noted. |

You need brackets. I HAVE THE BRAKES ON MY CAR.
There's NOTHINg to mount the caliper onto without the brackets. Loaded caliper means it comes with seals and pads and bolts i think, NOT brackets. You can believe andrew and wind up with a couple useless chunks of metal, or you can believe kazuo and myself and have brakes that work. if you dont know what you're talking about, man, STAY THE FUCK OUT. |

Ok. I think it'd be safest to get the junk yard set first. That was the whole point of reman though, I didn't want to find/use junkyard parts. If I find decent salvage brakes, I'll probably just use them as is for awhile if I can...
Thanks for your advice. While I'm here... do you (Option) still like these brakes on your car or would you go with z32 in hindsight?? The only thing I don't like is the lack of pad selection, but Axis MM, Ultimate, and Hawk HPS shoud be good enough for me. I'd prefer the Q's due to the overall cost (no lines required, diff core charges), but nothing is set in stone yet. Once again, thanks for the help. -Steve |

I haven't tried z32 so I couldn't authoritatively compare them.
check out www.ka24development.com, orion is a 240 guru. Trust his word when he says q45's stack up well to Z brakes. The balance isn't thrown off so much you absolutely need rears to match IIRC. Pad selection isn't THAT bad, Porterfield makes their R4-S which is more than enough for street/track duty...i'll take those over Metal masters. |

For reference, here is the stuff on FA that made me think that the bracket WOULD be included:
Quote:
![]() So if anyone HAS received this bracket from Autozone, please let me know. Thank you. OptionZero: I have that writeup from Orion. It is a large part of why I am going this route. I was just looking for an opinion. I have also seen a Q45 site in which they talk about the z32 as an upgrade for themselves. I know there are advantages to fixed calipers, just not sure if they make a real tangible difference. -Steve Last edited by 240shorty; 04-06-2006 at 01:10 PM.. |

I had Z32 30mm calipers before, now I have Q45s (to fit my low disk wheels. Spacers to fit the Z32 brakes would make it too low of an offset to fit under widebody).
Besides the Q45 being unballer compared to the Z, they stop just as good. The only thing i did not like too much was the increased rear bias (b/c Z32 is 4 small pistons, Q45 is 2 large sliding pistons). A biasing valve, or Z32 rear brakes would help this problem. I also have a Z32 1 1/16 BMC. |

I heard a few people around my area buying brackets on ebay and walking into Les Schaub stating they own a z32. They give Les Schaub there 240sx stock brakes and when the order comes in a few days later, Les hands over z32 calipers mounter on that bracket they bought earlier.

I will probably pay core up front and return my stock brakes later. People do this often. With nothing to compare, how do you tell the difference?
While technically a little shady, I have no moral objection to this. The core value of the 240sx brakes is 2 dollars HIGHER than the Q45 brakes. It's like I'm paying them $2... 240sx caliper core $95. Q45 core $93. This is for Morse remans. A couple pics courtesy of Parts America (Advanced Auto): Caliper W/Installation Hardware: Remanufactured; Front Left; Oe Metal Piston; Supplied W/O Mounting Bracket ![]() Caliper W/Installation Hardware & Pad: Remanufactured; Front Left; W/Full Active Suspension; Oe Metal Piston Bolt-On Ready; Semi-Metallic Pads ![]() Now, hopefully this is definitive. Is this everything that I'd need in the second pic?? Last edited by 240shorty; 04-06-2006 at 02:37 PM.. |

i work for advance auto parts make sure you specify w/ installation hardware. make sure you check before taking out fo the store
Also keep an eye out - you are going to be able to buy pre-powdercoated calipers. From what I hear z32's will be available. |

Morse Loaded calipers do come with the brackets. Individual calipers sold at Autozone however will not come with brackets, but sometimes they're available to order as well (not usually).
The Morse calipers are an awesome deal compared to the individual reman ones that we sell at Autozone. (I work for autozone....sadly) They're just hard to come-by as they're usually out of stock whenever I try to order them for people. Also, I wouldn't worry about returning your 240 calipers as the cores. They're not going to know what they're supposed to look like when you return them. When people return cores I just check to see that they're not cracked or broken in half or anything. I don't care if they're for a different car. -Mark |

Alright. That is the kind of info I was looking for. I checked through the listings at Autozone and Advanced as well as NAPA, and that was the best overall price I could find for the pair. I will probably go that route.
Thanks to everyone who offered their opinions. -Steve |

BTW,
I got bored and checked at Kragen on the calipers. Unloaded is just the caliper, nothing else. Semi-loaded is the caliper with hardware, no pads no mounting brackets etc. Loaded is everything. Hope that helps. |

At which store?? My brother started working @ Autozone and said he doesn't get the discount for stuff he has to order. Only normal stock items. And they stock VERY little useful Nissan stuff where I live... On a related note; I hear powder coating on calipers halves the stopping distance... similar to the phenomenon of type 'r' stickers adding 30 horsepower. ![]() I hope to get these done shortly, I'll post my experience for the benefit of future halfwits who replicate my retardedness. -Steve |

hey this thread is old i know but i have a quick question okay i try'd to bolt on the calipers and rotors today and everything lined up perfect i had em re-drilled to a 4 lug and the holes came out perfect but ! my lil problem was that the rotor has like a lil. plate on the inside its like a lil shield all around whatever u wanna call it okay and that would touch with the hub so it wouldnt let the rotor slide in ... did anyone have this problem?
what can i do to make it fit? cause its not going in with that lil surounding so yeah .... |
