will this switch work for a push start button?

this is a momentary switch it's rated at 30 ma... which idk i think it might fry the switch... i searched and didn't find the ratings and such so ... does anyone know ? i don't know how much the ignition switch in our cars are rated... and also ... im going to be hooking this up to the b.y that is hooked onto the switch in the car itself thanks again guys |

It looks ok. Just add a relay when you connect it so that you don't burn it out. Even though it's rated at 30 amps, our batteries put out 650 amps when starting. So attach a 25-30amp relay and wire it up.

I would be very careful with this because when you turn the key to ST, the ignition switch cuts power to the accessories. So when you rewire the switch, you have to cut power so your starter gets a stronger current.
You can see in the picture below. The ignition switch has to be able to withstand at least 30A to power the starter. ![]() ![]() Quote:

ok i have a 95 zenki and it's a auto - manu swap... so that fsm image doesn't really do anything for me now for the switch because it's rated at 30 milliamps... i guess it cant... but for the power cutting point... won't it cut off because all im doing it taking that wire from the ignition switch in the car to the new switch... of course i will have to put the key in the on position... or even mod the switch so it doesn't go past the on point... won't that work like stock ? just wondering. thanks again g6~ |

g6, yeah I know that we have the relays on our car. I had to use it on my civic when I did it and just assumed that the setups were similiar.
The interlock relay has a blue cover with two connectors plugged into it if you don't know j00...just FYI

If you have a chance to disassemble a broken ignition switch, look inside at the contacts. When you turn the key from ON to ST, the ignition switch literally moves the contact away from the terminal, cuting power to the accessories to reduce battery drain.
I posted the S13 diagram just for reference. If you have an S14 then you have the stupid anti-theft to deal with. Go to zeroyon.com and download the FSM for your year. I don't recommend you start messing with it until you finish the swap and the car is running. There is a bunch of stuff you can eliminate for simplicity, like the clutch interlock switch. |

the swap has been done months ago ... also put in a fuel pump cut switch and battery kill switch....
idk ... im just mad obsessed with switches now hahahahahahaha so about the ignition switch g6... ic what you mean.... so what's the best way to put it on ? ... arg.... and i have the fsm ... and it seemed that was easiest and best way |

What you could do is grab the 2 starter wires going to the ignition switch and reroute those through your switch. When you want to start the car, hold the key to the ST position and hit your starter switch until it fires (which really defeats the purpose since you're supposed to be able to start and change gears at the same time). Otherwise make sure you turn off all your electrical accessories when you hit the start button.
If I were to put one in my car, I would rebuild the ignition switch. That's the right way to do it, but I suppose you could get away with doing it like above. |
