Custom piping VS. Aftermarket exhaust

I'm thinking about putting on an exhaust in the very near future but can't decide which way to go, or which would be cheaper. I'd probably have a near by shop do the custom piping and installing for me. If I did go custom what would be the best setup for a non turbo ka? I was thinking 2.5" pipe, no resonater, and a high flow cat. Let me know what setup you guys with custom piping on a NA have gone with. Thanks.

That is going to be loud as sin. I wouldn't recommend it for a daily. I sold my setup to my brother, kept getting hassled with a set of HS headers, high flow cat and an Apex'i N1 Single. Just the cat-back and I never had to worry, but with the header and the pipe, it was really annoying loud. I think it'll be more trouble than it's worth for a custom setup on a stocker. Just buy something decent. I heard the SSA exhausts are pretty pimp.

Custom exhaust > aftermarket

2.5" on an N/A KA is loud. That's with a catalytic converter.

Since you live in Wisconsin, I say go for it. I would like something like that, with no cats and resonators, but I live in Cali.

Absolutely no question. 3 inch or don't bother.

You will hate life if you don't put at least on nice muffler in the pipe.

3.25in piping N1 here with greddy headers and 3in dp, no cat, test pipe

Custom owns on aftermarket pricing wise. Performance wise it all depends on who does the custom work. It can be good and it can be shitty.
As far as noise goes , it all depends on where you live, that goes for Cali too. A person in a rural part of Cali most likely will not get hassled, were as someone in a targeted urban area might. Conversely someone in a very urban area might not be hassled at all because the cops have better things to do.

For most people here, Exhaust = Straight pipes on a huge jacked up truck. Yeeeeehaaaaww. So I could probably get away with 3" pipe, no resonater, high flow cat from ebay, and ebay muffler. But i'ts not just cops i'm worried about. I'm also worried about getting annoyed by it driving to work everyday.

i love custom
but i got the new exhaust for cheap so why not cost as much as custom
custom a good setup will run you 200-300 mandrel bend if not more.
its nice because you can have it setup to your car, tucked nice and high, use the tips you want, resonator, no resonator, flange types...etc etc etc

To who left me the following feedback:

"the gains over 2.5" aren't even noticeable on an NA. Sure, on a dyno. but when you drive it, you won't even notice."

If you were to have a custom exhaust built. Why would you not go with the largest piping proven to make power with no tradeoffs? I don't understand your point. The thread starter is asking which would be best on a na ka- and if a 3" makes more power slight or not- why would you go with smaller piping?

I hope you work for a company that manufactures 2.5" exhaust piping or are under the impression the thread starter already has a 2.5" exhaust because otherwise you are an idiot.

I have 2 1/2 inch, no cat, w/resonator right now and it sounds perfect! Streetable, with a very low grumbly pitch. Get a resonator trust me, or you will be pissed at yourself later...

2.5 is good but what muffler are you going to use? with my set up its not that loud but the pipeing sucks ass cuz a family friend did it for free but I cant complain Im running a magnaflow resonator but with weaksauce pipeing with shit bends and at back I have the HKS hi power universal muffler -(Turbo size) yeah it doesnt make sense why put a turbo size muff when you're NA? Well I guess I just fell in love with the look of those big exhaust canisters you see in Option video and shit. But its not that loud at all if you're touchy about the way you want it angled be on top of that cuz if not it wont look right. That person who did my exhaust really screwed the way its supposed to look but ohh well.

hope this helps.

na ka i think 2.75 inch piping is your best bet since its NA anything larger than that you'll lose torque and a slight lose in hp. but i dunno.. i could be wrong.

3" on the KA FTW. I've had both and 3" is definitely the way to go NA or Turbo. 2.5" is civic shit.

If you are concerned about cabin resonance. Defenetely get a Resonator.

I would love to see someone use two of these(in 3" inlet of course):

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=8000884112
with a resonator of course...

i had a DOHC NA KA with 3" from the header back, and a caqtco high flow cat. witht he resionator in it was loud. with it out it made my head hurt and eyes water. so i dynomatted the trunk. and it was Ok. but ther is a LARGE noticible differance when you take that front cat out and add no restrictions to the exhaust.

note it was a RSR downpipe and RSR GTII catback.
