ka24de wont start

i have a 91 fastback w/ ka24de its the obd1. i just did a headgasket change the motor turned on before i did the gasket change. well the engine just cranks, but does not turn over, if its struggling for gas. i hear the fuel pump go on. i think that i didnt put back the distributor on right? b/c it seems its not firing right. i hear sometimes some poping. is there someone that can give some help so i can figure it out if its not positioned right or how to set the firing ratio or if is even that.
