over heating, oil leak and smoking engine?

today i was driving on the highway for about 20 minutes, pulled off because my car was smoking. i was leaking oil but it wasn't all that much and i could smell that my ka was burning oil. i checked my oil level and it wasn't low and i my coolant level is good. my water temp gauge said i was running at 250 but i don't think my engine was that hot on account of it wasn't necessarily hot to the touch and the hoses from my radiator weren't hard as a rock. my check engine light is on and im confused... this might be a stupid question and this is my first post but i figured someone might be able to help me out. what might be wrong? its a 1996 s14
