How do you go about car insurance?

I couldn't find much on the topic in the search function so I decided to create a thread.

I believe J-spec engines are illegal here in the states. If you are in a crash and the insurance comes to assess the damage, I am sure they will look for every reason possible to not cover the damage I.E. your illegal engine.

Also if they do not notice the engine I am sure they will be looking to total your car with minor damages. I've heard that some companies let you insure the parts you have in your car, but I am sure they would not let you insure an illegal power train.

How have you guys gone about your insurance?
