s13 hvac/cluster trim buttons no longer illuminate?

So, my hvac buttons and the buttons in the trim panel around my cluster no longer light up when the lights are on. Everything works as it should however. My cluster lights up, however its not the factory one, its after market gauges.

I'm not sure where to begin, because if you press one of the hvac buttons (like turn the windshield defrost on) the small green light lights up, but none of the back lighting does.

I'd imagine someone out there has had this issue before, likely stupid came unplugged?
