I changed my rear brake pads yesterday, bled the brakes (because I opened one of the brake lines to try and relieve pressure on a stubborn piston), took the car for a test drive and everything checked out ok. Then on the way to work today (which is about a 30-40 mile drive), when i was about a mile from my building, my brake pedal decides to lose all pressure and drops to the floor. The car did come to a stop though. Anyway, when I pulled into my parking lot, I could smell brake fluid, but when i checked to see if i lost any fluid. I didn't. Now the brakes have more pressure, but they are still fairly soft. So, i'm now sitting at work, hoping to make it home so i can try to resolve the issue.
The only thing two things that i can think of that could have caused problem are A.) didn't bleed the brakes enough or B.) when i pushed the passenger side piston into the caliper, a small section of the piston dust boot came over the top of the piston, and i left it that way. I didn't think much of it, but could this have been the problem? Any help would be appreciated.
