Kill switch need relay?

I have done the search and I couldnt' find the answer to my question for our car.

I'm going to setup a fuel pump killswitch by splicing into the fuel pump. I'm going to set up the wires up to the dashboard. BUT I've read that if you're using too much wire, you might need a relay. Again I'm going to use enough 14 gauge wire to go from the rear(pump) to the dash. I will also solder, shrinkwrap, and use a radio shack 20 or 30 amp switch.

Please tell me if a relay is necessary. I got the info from a honda board.
