Well I have a newsflash for you all. There are people in this world who want to kill you for no other reason than being an American and they will trick you into a false sense of security so they can do exactly that.

Don't bring liberal vs conservatives into this. I agree with you that those people exist, I just don't believe they are everywhere as you seem to believe. Also, to compare China and the Middle East is completely off. The Chinese people in general seem to like America and its culture. Have you seen their reaction to the US team in the opening ceremony? I'm watching the USA vs China men's basketball game right now, and there's just as many ooh and ahs for the American team as their is for the Chinese team, doesn't seem like a country full of people bent on hating you coz you're American... having a few crazies doesn't change this.

And if we had a little more of that "outdated prejudice" nowadays we wouldn't have had a plane hijacked and crashed into two buildings, a subway blown up, a number of people kidnapped and decapitated, or the number of other terrorist attacks that have been committed over recent years.

I agree that just living in a place doesn't mean you know everything about it. However, the same can be said for working in military intelligence. If anything, we may see different aspects of China that predisposes us to forming certain opinions. Let's just put this to rest, I don't want to clutter up an olympics thread with this.
On topic: my goodness, in the 2nd quarter the game is tied... China is living off of 3s, I wonder when they'll stop falling.
