KA overheating, odd problem

so its winter time and my temp gauge was always fluctuating, either too cold, or normal operating temp.

so i thought my thermo was stuck open

i buy one from autozone, open it up, and i dont have one. so i put it in, right side in, with the jiggle valve on top.

run my car, overheats, no biggie, i jack the front up and bleed it for a while.

after a while or so, still over heating, so i take the thermostat and put it in a pot and heat it up.. it opens.. i put it back in

still overheating.. lower hose it cold, but the thermostat housing is hot.

i take the hose off, and there was barely any fluid coming out.. i take the radiator cap and it just pours out of the hose.. is that normal?

my car ran fine with the thermostat off, just cold and no heater..
