big problem with suspension! help!

i bought this parts s13 240 for 200 bucks, reason being it has Eibach sportlines on it, and brand new OEM shocks. so i get it home and immediately rip off the shocks/springs, and swap them with my worn stock bits. everything's fine until i do the rear left one. i'm tightening it down on my car, and one of the bolts on top SNAPS OFF. it doesn't upset me too badly, though, as it's off a junker, and i can just swap the plate the bolt is attached to off my old shocks, no problem. so i get a spring compressor from autozone and compress the spring, and then get out my trusty long 17mm socket, and attempt to take off the top bolt that holds everything together... and instead of loosening, it just spins. the nut and the bolt it's attached to just spin freely, independent of everything else on the assembly. how the hell do i get it off?
