Help- Gutless Acceleration

When I bought my 92 SE Hatchback a couple weeks ago, the car was only firing on 3 cylinders, the problem turned out to be a bad injector which I had repaired. But when accelerating the car feels very slow until a very noticeable increase in power at about 5800-6000rpm which by then is just about time to upshift. Last weekend I unplugged the battery to try to reset the ECU, and at first I thought it may have helped, but now im begenning to doubt that it did. My buddy and I also replaced the cap and rotor which looked a little worn. I wasn't expecting this car to be fast, but I still don't think its running like it should. I dont know if it has anything to do with running on 3 cylinders for awhile or what. We looked at the MAF and it didnt seem to dirty. Timing may be a possibilty, what should the stock timing be at? Im pretty baffled here. Thanks,

Mike
