4th gear drifting sounds awesome
as for figuring out which gear, most people usually run cold laps before actually drifting, to warm up tires and such. Drive the track a few times, varying in intensity, and see which is good. 2nd gear is most common, 3rd usually needs more speed which means you're more skilled.
