IF you really get stuck you can cheat.  In the S14 fuse panel there is a circuit marked audio.  (check your owners manuel.)  just run the wire under the carpet to the panel and pick one side of the fuse, wrap the wire around one of the spades and plug it back in.  I was in a rush for a show when I set my last system up and did it this way.  It worked so well that I was to lazy to break the dash back open and rerun the wire.     BTW it is supporting a JL 300x2 running 2 JL 12w0's  and never had a problem.  Some cars have a low end feedback if you try to turn the radio off when the engine is running but the S14 has a good enough ground system that i have never had a problem.
