EGR/AIV removal write-up, anyone?

Well, I've read a few post on removing the EGR/AIV and am VERY interested in removing these things before I drop the motor back in. No, I do not expect any power gains. No, failing emission testing does not worry me.

Thus far, all I've really learned is you should plug the exhaust, and make a block-off plate for the manifold using the old gasket as a template, remove the hard line, BPT valve, and the vacuum lines. The only vacuum line left should be to the Fuel Pressure Regulator, yah? Also, to keep the CEL from coming on, you cut the wires off the EGR temp sensor, solder one end of the resistor to one wire, repeat on the other end.

With all that said, I still do not feel confident enough to tamper with the emissions crap. I am probably just over-complicating things, but it still scares me. Anyone have the time to do a write-up who has successfully removed the EGR/AIV?

KA

My blown motor, before removing anything. Ran out of disk space to snap away during removal.

Since I'm in the process of swapping intake/exhaust manifolds, I'm determined to rid the emissions junk. It seemed pretty straight-forward as we were removing my blown motor's intake manifold. Plugging the hole in the exhaust manifold with a plug from the Nissan Stealership, part #14052-21R00, cost about $8 I've heard. As for the block-off plate, I got a template drawn, going to cut it out tomorrow at school.

Pictorial write-up coming soon!

I would love to see a write up about cleaning up the engine bay by way or removing erg/aiv stuff. I would do it if I knew how! Also, I think it would be very helpful if someone would take some pictures and label them to aide i how and what to remove/plug.

Crioten: Yea, I was suppossed to go to STL for the Mazda-Rev-It-Up deal, but quit my job and had no money to pay for a place to stay. I'm plasma cutting my block-off plate here in a few, I'll make an extra for you...

arent you gonna need to install a resistor somewhere so the EGR still thinks its plugged in? or is the EGR system totally mechanical? I have a EGR flow excessive code right now and was gonna throw a used EGR on it, but i'd rather just remove it totally

The resistor is replacing the EGR Temp sensor. Cut the wires off the EGR temp sensor, solder one end of the resistor to one wire, repeat on the other end. I believe it is a 10k-ohm, 1/4 resistor, can anyone confirm?

Crioten: Cut the plates out yesterday, still need lots of work, and get my car running to test it out! All I am asking is price of shipping.
