Sorry didn't realize there was a difference.  If you could explain both that would be great but if not that's ok too.

Ill try to explain and if anyone sees that more info needs to be added jus add some more.

Red-Top S13 SR20DET       180SX 91-93 and Silvia 91-93

Black-Top S13 SR20DET    180SX 94-98

Displacement:  1998cc (2.0 liter)                     Cam type:  DOHC 16 valve, chain driven cam sprockets

Bore and stroke:  86mm x 86mm                    Compression:  8.5 : 1

Horsepower:  205hp at 6000rpm                      Torque:  203 ft/lbs at 4000rpm

Stock boost:  7 psi                                          Throttle body bore:  60mm

Turbo specs:                                                   Injector size:  370cc/min

    Turbine: T-25, 62 trim 53.8mm 0.64 A/R turbine housing.

    Center Section: Journal bearings

The difference in those engines i believe the 91-93 used high port and also 94-98 used high port as  well. but someone please correct me if i am wrong okie? Now hear are the specs for  the S14 Blacktop. That came equipped wid the Variable vavle time system. The S14 used low port unlike the S13 used high port..

Black-Top S14 SR20DET    Silvia 95-98

Horsepower:  220hp at 6000rpm                        Torque:  203 ft/lbs at 4800rpm

       Turbine: T-25, 62 trim 53.8mm 0.64 A/R turbine housing.

I took the specs from Heavy throttle, i hope this helped you in ur quest for  a sr20det.. later

would installing a t-28 off an s14 onto an s13 redtop be a simple task, as in diret replacement? and if so, what kind of horses would a t-28 powered redtop make?

yep, that is basically it.  s14 have VTC variable intake cam timing, and a t28 ball-bearing turbo, while the s13 from '91-93 has the red valve cover, and the '94-98 180sx has a black valve cover, but they both have the same turbo and everything.  s13 blacktop does not have VTC.  So it is basically the exact same engine but with a different color valve cover.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that the s14 does not have a low-port head, only the s15 have the low port, s13 and s14 have the high port head.

And installing a t28 turbo would have a much quicker spool up time because they have a ball bearing center section, but the power potential is not all that different.

I was told that the redtop sr are better because the black top sr tend to blow easier.  My friend in Oki told me that so he is giving me a redtop sr for my old dime.

Wrong... S14 SR's have low port head. S13's have high port. None have been proven to work better or worse.

Why?? They the same motor. Don't go spreading misinformation just because your friend said so.

If you have proof to back that statement up then by all means let me hear it. If not then stop posting this crap.

Not trying to be a ====> I just get sick of people posting information that they have no first hand knowledge of.
