Bad Transmission?

I recently purchased an s13 with a SR20det. Apparently, the seller told me that he roached the clutch and possibly the transmission too. When I put it in gear, the car will still roll as if it's in neutral. when i move the shifter i feel a distinct click when going into each gear. I'm most likely not going to be replacing the clutch myself due to parking situations. so... is there is a way to figure out if the transmission is still good without removing it?
