Two words: Simple Green. I have used it on my engine bay before.

Go get a bottle of Simple Green All Purpise cleaner and spray it down on your engine bay. Make sure your engine is not hot. Let it cool off before doing this. After spraying down the dirty parts, let it set for a while. Brush the really dirty parts if needed with a toothbrush or something. After this, hose down the engine bat with a high pressure water hose (or you regular hose with ur thumb on the end). I HIGHLY RECOMMEND taking out the spark plugs and covering up the spark plug chamber so water does not get into them. ITs a PAIN if this happends. Trust me.

EDIT: AH yes, cover up the distributor cap as well, make sure it doesnt get wet.

i've seen my friend spray his engine bay down at the pressure wash... he told me to do the same to my Z once, but i was to scared i'd fuck something up.

I've used Simple Green before with great results!

I'm a little too squeemish to take a hose to my engine, but I was able to clean it up with a clean sponge and a bucket of water...

You have to cover EVERYTHING electrical, not just the distributor and the spark plug wires. You have to make sure that your filter (if you have a cone) doesn't get wet. Make sure your MAF is covered, all your sensors are covered, make sure that your fuel rail is covered, make sure that your belts don't get too wet either b/c they'll start squealing and can possibly get out of adjustment, providing you get them wet enough.
