What do you all think about some Rx-7 3rd gen wheels on a 240?.. they are the sam lug pattern correct?, and you'd have 8inch width which would be soo nice.. i like the way they look as well,, anyhow, let me know what u think, and also.. how much do you think rims and tires in good condition should cost?... or how much would rims be at a junk yard?.. thanks in advance.

The problem with FD (or Miata or Millenia(sp)) wheels is the center bore. &nbsp;Even if the lugs match, the center of the wheel is too small to fit on other cars. &nbsp;Boring that out is not an option either. &nbsp;

No one I know has done it (and I know a lot of VERY serious autoxers that wanted Miata wheels for their Civics). &nbsp;Don't know if it's structural or just super difficult, but these are people that do a fair amount of fabrication and DIY wrenching who are afraid - so, so am I!

What about TT zx wheels? &nbsp;

300zx wheels fit perfect, and look good to <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>. The FD wheels also have next to no offset (IIRC) so I think clearance might be an issue as well.

West's drag setup is 3rd Gen RX7 Wheels 16x8 for the rear, I dono what he puts on the front...it doesn't say. &nbsp;so the I know the rears fit.

DSC its corect, the rear wheels will fit fine.

If you're going to be doing the 300zx brake up-grade, I'm almost certian the rims won't clear them.

Correction. &nbsp;I have personally installed FD wheels on my '95 240. &nbsp;They fit fine, the center bore is LARGER than the stock wheels, so you may want to make some centering rings if you're pickey. &nbsp;The only thing is that you'll have to use a small spacer on the front, because the rim hit the spring perch. &nbsp;But you're right, they are light, strong, and would look good on a 240.

so you are saying that on a 5 lug 96se,, i should have no problem installing 3rd gen rx-7 wheels?... &nbsp;we have 2 opinons here.. who's right?!

Also, asuming they fit, where would i find the spacers you are talking about... what else would i need to make them fit and look right? &nbsp;In simple english, caus i'm not that car smart <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Well, just wanna interject something here. . I don't think the second guy is forming an opinion, since he's done it before... I've heard it can be done as well, so throw mine in there as well hehe. . they would look pretty nice, if you could somehow remove the mazda emblem. . But I dunno... &nbsp;something about using wheels from another mfger. . I mean. . wouldn't u be pissed if u saw a Civic rolling on S14 wheels? =)

I agree, I would'nt stick rims off of any other car. They just would'nt seem right. I would save up and buy aftermarket rims.

You could get the spacers at a local parts store. &nbsp;They won't be hub-centric, but neither will the wheels. &nbsp;Pep-Bpys has them for like $7 for a set of two. &nbsp;I agree that the 300ZX wheels would be a good way to go, they are Nissan, and they would have the correct spacing, and they'd be hub-centric.

Explain hub-centric?.. and no,, i woudnt' be pissed if i saw a civic rolling on s14 wheels.. i'd think he was pretty rediculous, because he doesn't gain any width... but whatever, plus, i want to powerdercoat the wheels white, so people wouldn't recognize them anyway most probably... seriously though, they are light, strong, look good, and are wide... i would be an idiot if i didn't get them because they were mazda.

Without going to deep into metalurgy, the purpose of the lug nuts / bolts is to hold the wheel tightly against the flat mounting surface of the hub flange, horizontally. &nbsp;ONLY. &nbsp;The wheel is located (centered) vertically on the hub by a very tight slip fit between a raised ring in the center of the hub and a hole in the exact center of the wheel. &nbsp;If the hole in the center of the wheel is not a tight fit on this boss, than there is no way to center the wheel about the hub, and the balance will not be correctly maintained. &nbsp;Aftermarket wheels will usually come with a sizing ring to adapt to fit whatever car it's being installed on. &nbsp;Good wheels anyway. &nbsp;A wheel that is properly centered by the hub ring is said to be hub-centric. &nbsp;Having tapered lug nuts will help to center a non-hub-centric wheel, but it still won't be right. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;

but the enkei ones would cost mad $.. and i can probably find some FD wheels at a junkyard... perhaps.. &nbsp; sooo,, does anyone know someone who has FD wheels on a 240? or can tell me EXACTLY what i need to do to make it fit perfect?.. &nbsp;i realize i need rings, but what kinda of rings?. size, etc.. i realize i'm asking a lot, but just answer what you can <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> thanks!

:sheepish: oops. &nbsp;Sorry for the bum info - I heard there was a center bore problem w/ FD wheels and assumed it was the same one as for Miata wheels (too small). &nbsp;Sounds like you can do it, but if they won't be hub-centric, you may experience some handling problems. &nbsp;240s15 seems to be the resident expert - he may know how much vibration you will get from them not being centered.

i actually wanted to buy some kosei k1 racings off of a 3rd gen rx-7 that was at work, so i called tire rack and they said that they would fit fine on my 98se, so i would think that would mean that the stock rx7 wheels would be ok as well, but i can't say for sure

The K1's are hub centric. I have them on my 97. If you got the ones off the FD you would probably need new plastic hub rings. Those can be had for about $2 a piece at your local NTB or sears.

I just emailed this to AJ...
Well, the hub centric thing is not a huge problem. &nbsp;Many aftermarket wheels are not hub-centric, and people drive around on them all day. &nbsp;It's just that it is possible that the wheel might not be perfectly centered on the hub when you rely on only the lug nuts. &nbsp;However, if you're careful to tighten the nuts properly, it'll probably be fine. &nbsp;Since the nuts are tapered, if you'll tighten them in a star pattern, going several times around from a light hand tight, till you apply full torque, it'll center good enough. &nbsp;But you might want to check the torque often, and you'll definitely need to use a good torque wrench for the final round so that each of the nuts will have the same torque applied, this is crucial. &nbsp;
Plus, you'll have to go to Pep-Boys or somewhere and buy a pair of wheel spacers for the front, 1/4 might be all you need and they'll be around $7 for the pair. &nbsp;
Now, if you were a perfectionist, or if you plan to use the car for track use, you'll want to have a set of spacers made custom that'll be hub-centric with the hub on the inside, and the wheel on the outside of the spacer, and a set of centering rings for the rear. &nbsp;That's what I did once. &nbsp;Feel free to ask if you need any clarification.

Come on you lot, I can't beleive you are discussing Ma*da rims for a Nissan, have some respect!!!!!! :biggrin: You have access to some of the most desirable rims on the planet to fit a 240 and at a fraction of the price that we pay for them in the UK and you wanna fit fd rims on yours... is yous crazy!!!!!!!!!? <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

A word of warning when searching out deals on FD wheels. &nbsp;There were two sets of 3rd gen wheels produced. &nbsp;One set has a curved finish where the spokes meet the rim insde of the wheel (these are good). &nbsp;The other set has a tendency to crack. &nbsp;These wheels will have a sharp change where the spoke meets the wheel at the rim (not a smoother curve). &nbsp;This meeting point is on the inside of the wheel so you will either have to stick your hand into the wheel and feel the joint or remove them from the car.

I don't remember if these were year model specific. &nbsp;I think at some point it was only the good/curved wheels on the 7s and for one or two years it could be either as both were used.
