differences in sr20det and sr20vet?
i usually hear about the det and not the vet why is that? what are the differences in the 2 motors besides the valve timing? are the majority of the parts interchangable?

VET available only on JDM-only SUV, the X-trail i believe.
It's not RWD. specific parts differences, can't help ya the SR20DET is fine as is...heck, even the s15 version has only minor advantages over the s13 one |

the SR20VET only EVER came in the X-Trail GT, which is a mini-SUV offered in Japan. It's a FF-based AWD car. The reason you don't hear about it in reference to 240sx is because it'd be a huge pain in the ass to swap it in.
I'm sure the injectors and turbine could be used relatively painlessly, but finding them wouldn't be any easier than S15 SR stuff. In other words, in terms of cost and convenience, it's not a viable option.

The VET has an AWD drivetrain, so you'll have to switch over to the RWD tranny for it to work.
Also, you'll have to get around the FWD block (due to the coolant necks and hoses and such) and the dizzy being on the back of the head, which means possible firewall cleanrance issues (rumor has it the 20v CAS will work with minor firewall modifications). Other than that, it's just that the motors are still new, so they're hard to come by. Not to mention a few people have talked about doing VE head swaps on RWD DE blocks, but have not heard back from those people. |

the sr20vet doesnt use a distributor. it has a CAS and coil packs on each cylinder like the RWD sr20det. the block differences is the biggest issued to overcome because only like 3 bolts line up with a RWd trans. the oil pan blots of the FWD motors dont line up with the RWd trans. if you wanna make the modifications and have aluminum welded ont he block to create new mounting points then it can be done but its a lot of work that is not really worth it.
if it was me i would put the VE or the VET head on the DET block to get advantage of the fixed rocker arms that will never come off no matter what the rpms are. i would use the variable cam junk and go all out 10K rpm with it.

I would use it. But IIRC the SR20VET's VVL stuffs are disabled or something like that. |

With a good set of cams (which Franklin Cams just came up with a few sets of cams for the VE motors, we're all just waiting to see some dyno results) and upgraded valve springs, all you have to worry about is the bottom end staying together at 10k rpm. The head is superior to any DE or even the DET as far as flow goes, plus all the rocker arms and stuff are no longer an issue due to the head design (think Honda heads), so the head is good for 10k rpm, easily.

If you guys really want to learn all about this stuff, head over to sr20forum.com. There's only one VE powered S14 in Japan right now, but as soon as I get my finances in order (who knows when) I'm definitely doing a VE head swap, and there are some other guys planning it as well. Yes FWD VET's easily rev to 10K with forged rods and pistons, even higher with SR16VE they have a con-rod ration of like 2.1:1....insane

I'm already over on SR20forums, how do you think I know about the VEs and stuff?
![]() But yeah, there really isn't enough info on that S14 about that swap though. And the guys like BigTom and them that were supposed to put the VE head on their RWD blocks and what not, have dropped off the face of the earth, so no real updates, which sucks. |

A frankenstein in sr world is like a gt4088R with 150 shot. if your actually making a high output variable timing (cam or otherwise) becomes irrealevent and a hinderance, not a cool soopdooper jdm frankenstien (man i wish my mugen parts were compatible) cutting edge engine hybird... so whats the point? Higher redline? 10k? Make sure you pair that with a custom gear box ![]()
