before I even get it

I just got a call from the dealer saying there is a guy that wants a Z for his kid's birthday which happens to be the same month I am getting my 350Z. Here is the kicker. He will pay $6000.00 over MSRP to get the car! damn
Apparently it is the EXACT car the kid wants. He wants a definate answer by Friday AM.

Right now many things are going through my head.
1) Tell him tough luck.
2) Get the $6000.00 and drop a SR in my 240 , this keeps my low payments / lower insurance than the Z / Lower taxes. Plus I can get a Z later.
3) Get the $6000.00 and be ALOT closer to getting a house.

I think I am going to do it unless you guys give me a good reason not to. damn, cars sure do cause dilemas in my life. First the Z TT and now this!!!

Any advice?

I'd say go for it! You can always buy another 350z later and 6,000 will go a long way on your 240.

I say take the 6k put the SR20 in your car and get a Z later. I've heard rumors of a TT/SC version so if you wait you might get that instead. Or you could wait and get the convertable, I think it comes out around March. I say wait. You might end up being glad you did.

You guys are right. I am giving $$ away if I don't do this. Plus this might help me avoid a Z with "first model year quirks". I will HAVE TO keep this away from wife in order to get the SR.

Not even a question... take the money!

Let the rich spoiled kid get his car and then laugh at him for paying 6k over, then if you want put that down a Z or SR the 240

It sounds like you have a decent income judging by the fact that you can afford a new Z. I had the same dilemma as you this past May. I suddenly came in to $6k and could either get a new Z, SR my s14 or buy a house.

Here's what I decided:

My House: Start to finish.

The choice is clear. I paid $230k and a house with my same floorplan up the street (with a less expensive exterior than mine) is on the market for $260k. I moved in a month ago!

One way to look at it: If you are still gonna get the Z, you get paid $6000 to wait a little longer.

YOU ARE GETTING $6000 FOR *FREE*

ok this is a no brainer. take the money . thats not just a SR in your car its also coilovers

You can get a Z the following year when they have worked out any possible first year quirks and you will be able to just drive it off the showroom floor without waiting when you do decide to pick it up.

Wait and take the money, try and bargain for a little more, besides, first year of production always have minor defects.

Mark me up for a definite yes on selling Z and waiting until later.

SIDE NOTE: what happened to the Z being an affordable $26K. If the NA 350Z is running all the way up to $60K, what will the TT 350Z cost???

Bing - I think I owe you a meal. I took your advice on the $7,000 and we decided on $6,750.

He came over last night and gave me the check! The guy is senoir cardiologist. He pulls up in a '00 Black Bentley Turbo. WTF! I have never seen one of those up close. What a ride.

I feel like I just won the lottery. Before he came over, I told my wife about what happened and she was VERY happy. She had wanted me to wait on the Z until we bought a house anyway. The plan is to add $1,000 to the "mods" fund I had been working on for the Z. That will put me up to $3,000.00. I figure a few more months and I can get a SR. The other cash will go towards the house

Thanks for the advice. I think I made the right choice

very simple is the STATUS part of being a new 350z owner worth $6000 to you? if not take the cash and get one later. if you really want a new Z now to be one of the "first" then take the car and run. Also if you want to modify the Z you'll have to wait until aftermarket gets a hold of it anyway!! Also the talks of a turbo Z are scarce but slightly possible!! good luck.

PS: I'd take the loot and Have a fat SR w/ s15 conversion done.

Awesome. I'm glad it worked out for you. As much as I'd love to have a new Z, getting $6750 for nothing would be better!

I also agree - put it into a house! That's a nice little chunk to be put toward a downpayment.

Natty - you must live someplace where houses are VERY cheap. That isn't a bad price at all for a 3 br w/ garage! Around here, a 3 br. + 2 car would go for $350+ (and it would be a townhouse at that).

Where are they selling them for $60K??? The top-of-the-line model costs like $35k (or so I thought).

The new 'Z' #0001 sold for 60k on Ebay. Others are selling for MSRP plus dealer added markup of probably 3-10k.

thats a <90k house where i live in florida. My aunt and uncle built a 4500sq ft mansion, with a formal dining room which can accomodate over 20 people, parlor that can hold over 20, 10 x 20 walk in closets in the my cousins and the master bedroom.. blah blah blah... houses like in Hollywood would be in the millions. Because they did all the work themselves, and only contracted people for real hard work, like some of the brickwork, it only cost them 160k in the early 80s. Also my uncle is a Vice President at Stetson University so he got left over stuff from the university to build it, like all of the doors inside the house were old ones from Stetson.

That would've been nice to pay that little. Economy is different all over the country. If my house cost 90k in Florida, I'd probably make a lot less money than I do now.

Yeah, this is way off topic, but I ate dinner with a limey last night, and hes lived all over the world. He actually said that the Shell Corporation who has CEOs all over the world figures out how to pay them accordingly for where they live by the McDonalds plain Hamburger. They do that because McDonalds is everywhere in the world... Turns out that Paris was the most expensive city to live in for a while, its in the top 5 now, anyways, its gonna suck going from this terrible economy where the average house costs <100k to one of the most expensive cities in the world.
