electric fan

An electric fan means the fan wont run off a belt, which will free up more power.... but I cant find one anywhere.  any suggestions on where to look?

would something like this fit onto a 96?  and is my car gonna have to be drilled for this to go in..... and am i gonna need a new, shorter serpentine belt since i wont have that pulley anymore?

Yeah, that thing is supposed to fit, but i really doubt it's worth the money. This is what i have in my car: http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=10633. It pushes alot of air through. I know a guy who is running this with an SR and never had any problems with overheating.

i have heard from a few that have installed that installing the fan doesnt get you any performance numbers.  but most do it cuz it will push more air.  might not be a problem where you live but in AZ it is hot as hell.  so more air is better.  also it frees up alot of space under the hood.  personally i like it better.  as soon as get my suspension i will be getting some fans.  i know of some guys that got fans on there cars and i can ask them if you want.

It does, except it's not at the top end hp. Our fans are clutch driven. And designed so that they are always engaged when u start in 1st gear and disconnect at higher speeds. Therefore the difference is felt on 1000-4000rpm but makes no difference at like 5000-6000. What it also does is increase mpg.

it doesn't give you more hp, but you lose less hp from crank to the wheel, so you're getting more hp to the wheel, but not at the crank. I've heard about 4-5 hp.

That's depending on how you are thinking about it. If you are talking about flywheel hp, than yeah, u won't show any gains due to the way flywheel hp is calculated in the first place (in this case u are just getting back what you are losing). If you are talking about the actual hp yer car has (eg the rwhp) then the dyno will be happy to show you the difference.

Anyways, it doesn't matter whatever you have in mind. taking off the mechanical fan makes a difference. Can't argue that.

i was just comparing this as to an exhaust or intake, where you get more hp at flywheel(crank) as well. same idea as with a pulley, lightened flywheel, etc... &nbsp;bottom line, it helps.

Kreator, how was the install when you put it in? S13 or S14? So are you saying that the fan you have (the one you linked: http://store.summitracing.com/partdet....erimage)is good for the $$$?? If so, I would consider getting one.

I have an s14. It didn't take too long to install. I'd say 3-4 hours if you know exactly what you are doing, and maybe a bit more if you have to run to the home depot to get random stuff.

Well as for performance of the fan, like i said - a guy around here is running that fan with an sr at 15psi and doesn't have any overheating problems. And he is running it without even a shroud. I yet didn't get a chance to test mine out due to the fact that my engine fucked up the same day. I'm pretty sure the fan pushes more than enough. When i was testing it out and connected to the battery, the thing almost flew away from my hands. I made a custom shroud for my fan that cost me like $3 and is no different in performance as the one flexalite puts around there fans.

There is a write up somewhere on the net on how to wire the fan to run with the ignition switch on. It's absolutely unnecessary, but it's easier, cheaper and is nothing to worry about except for the 9amps that your car is constantly robbed off. I payed extra money for thermo sensor (like $15) that will make the fan run when the temp hits like 170F. so if you decide to go by that route, pm me and i'll make a write up on how i did my wiring.

That blue sticker on the very left goes on the custom shroud and that acid green stripe abit to the right of the fan is where the thermo is connected to the radiator hose.

im thinking about a electric fan for my car.. i live in northern florida... its been hot latly... what would you suggest for a fan set up for my car??? and also... what are some benefits owning a electric fan as oppose to the clutch fan. and would &nbsp;be alright to let the electric fan be on at all times?? i dont really want a adjustable thermostat cause I know its deathly hot out and the fan would be on pretty much at all times… I appreciate any help I get…
