Help for a Silvia newbie

hey guys so anyway i bought a 92 se hatch a couple weeks ago and its my first stick. now ive read about the redline at 6 and the stock specs. but id like to get some info from the ppl who actually DRIVE the car.

for the daily drive i shift at about 3-3.5 and it gets me 20mpg. but i do like to bring it up to 6 when im gettin on the freeway n such to really hear the engine. but exactly HOW far can i take this car?

SPECS:
92 SE hatch
stock KA
stock tranny
195,000 miles. been a garage baby tho. runs smooth.

so plz tell me. how far can i push, how much can it take, and whats the best shift point to keep the mileage(college student )

bro just fucking take it for a spirited driving session down some service road, side street, deserted alley or some shit. and if you're scared about blowing the engine and actually do, you have an excuse to buy an SR.

OR just sit in your driveway and rev the shit out of it...?

The car is called a 240SX, not a Silvia. You're not in Japan.

If you need a damn opinion based on YOUR car, why dont YOU fucking figure it out. Its not our car, we dont know the condition of the engine, we've never seen nor have we driven YOUR car. Its stock hi mileage KA, I highly doubt it can do anything much than trying to outrun a damn civic...

Well okay just one.

Just drive it yourself and figure it out which point you should be shifting in order to get better mileage.

You want better gas mileage, get off the fucking GAS!!! Better yet do a full tune up, change the fuel filter, o2 sensor and clean your gas tank.

It's called tough love.

You haven't seen shit yet.

But just take your licking, learn your lesson, and move on.

Don't take it personal.

It's nothing new here.

Anyhow, your stock redline should be about 6500rpm, so shift there for best performance. It will drop your car back into the powerband.

Try shifting your car a little earlier, mostly around 3K or below if you can. Use Regular Gasoline, make sure the tires are inflated to proper PSI, make sure/do a check up on on the fluids, and if you must a tune up.

Enjoy.

Drifting = gay for someone with an Altima

Upshift from 5.5k gives you the most power. read magazine scans of the 240sx when it was brand new and most of them advise that as well

Use premium gas since it was intended to be used with premium gas. The difference between a full tank of gas with premium vs regular is like $.30~ at most. Don't be a cheap ass.

if you play in that 5000 to 6000 RPM range too much you'll probly have to change that timing chain preatty soon. once thats done you should be good after that.

1. YOU will be faster shifting at redline. Even with power Dropping at 5600rpm, shifting at redline will drop you right back at around 4600rpm or so. You cannot Disagree that this is the fastest way of accleration.

2. Drifting IS Stupid.

3. Nissan recommends regular gasoline. Using anything else, and your wasting your money, and hurting your fuel economy. JWT's Ecu bumps up the timing maps so you can take advantage of higher octane, unlike with the stock Ecu.

I'm right, your wrong. Faggots.
