This happened about 5 hrs ago at night..kinda still in shock...but I will explain my story.

Ok...I'm coming from a red light and start crusing. I noticed I can switch lane and decide to get to the far left. But here is what happens...as I'm switching lanes I see the road in front of me is clear, but at the same time I notice two pickup trucks yeilding and slow proceding in front of the car I was behind. Out of no where one of the pickup trucks (the one behind the first) starts to shift into my lane really really slowly. I did not see a turn signal nor did I have time to react. My car was doing 40 (speed limit was 50)...so as this car shift its sideway right in front of me. Like I mentioned before I had no time to react probably. All I can do is slam my brakes, honk my horn and try to steer clear of this car....but it was too late. I can see was my front right hitting his left rear corner and everything happened in a flash. My car is struggling to move on the island as this pickup is still strolling and decides to make a stop. I get out of my car and the first thing I say is "F*CK!!!!". I look at the passenger side, my corner light was about 5 feet away, my fender was all f*cked up, and damage was done to my bumper and alittle to my hood. I'm constantly cusing as I look at the guy and tell him "damnnit do you know how much this is going to cost?!?"....and he's like "look at my truck, if the repair over $1000 it's totaled". Let me but on the side that he was driving a '79 GMC pickup...I looked at it and his rims was bent and also his fender flare...yet it was 100% driveable. A few minutes someone comes running to the accident saying he was a witness and saw everything....which is a good thing. So 20 minutes pass, cop finally comes and he didn't charge anyone..but he says its up too the witness and insurance company for who is to blame. During this whole time, I'm going crazy I can't stand and look at my car because of oncoming traffic and my leg was getting stiff. But once the cop came I was just looking at my car the whole time, told him my story and swap insurance info. The cop was really cool, liked my car and knew that I was not speeding. The guy with the truck calmed I was doing 60....which is a big lie....my car can not do 0-60 in 5 secs. nor was I pushing my car. Anyways I'm just rambling on right now because my baby is hurt and I'm stressing out. The guy with the truck drove off nice and simple as I waited for a tow truck. I had my car towed to the side of my apartment so I can look at it out of the window and just cry. (j/k) So I double checked my car and notice that I messed up my alignment or tie rods, because one wheel is in the turning while the other one is straight. So I'm cusing like a bitch, until my mom comes into play and comes me down (kinda). I'm just hoping my car is not totaled...it doesn't look like it. But damn my car is fucked up....its more then just visual. I also can't seem to open my right door.....its barely opens. damn to much is going on in my mind to make myself clear.

I can't explain how I feel right now......I just hope I'll be back in my car later on this week.

Does anyone know wassup with my alignment or wheels.?....I filed it as "tie rod damage"...also does anyone know wassup with my door?

I will post pics whenever I can...it just hurts right now to be car less.....actually S14 less.

haha I wish I could, in fact I was about to do that until I found out he's in the Marines.

I double check my car right now and I noticed my fender is banged inward then outward to the point that the gap between the fender and door cease. That why I can't open the door. As for my front wheels.....does the S14 come with independent four wheel suspension? if so it must be my tie rod, control arm and bushings.

BTW, my car's value is at $5500....thats actually than I bought it for ($3700).

Yet I'm still down

i think the reason that your passenger door can't open is because of the fender is on its way.. it happen to mine when some asshole hit and run on me... i was so piss back then.. thank god that my baby is just as good as it used to now.. so back to your question.. try to open the door and see if the fender is on itsway if it is then your door should be fine...
anyways the best bet to see how much damage was done to your car is find a reputable bodyshop and have them quote it for you...

PS. feel sorry for your lose, i know how you feel right now cause i been there.

from what it sounds like, there is a chance that it's totaled, 'cause you were going 40mph. but it wasn't a big hit, 'cause he was moving as well, while the right corner gives a lot of crumple zone, i doubt the car is totaled. once reason for the door not opening, there is a chance for the fender being in the way, like someone had said before.

and if that guy is lieing and crap to you? and the witness is on your side, get him good. go get yourself checked up, sometimes you don't feel the pain from an accidnet till a day, a week later. and the docs know how to push the buttons and find out if you were hurt. i got my money for my silvia conversion after totaling my toyota camry. i felt fine after, but my bro made me go to a doc, and the doc was pressing on my neck, and it hurt like hell.

its hard to explain with out showing you, but what happened is as I switch lanes this truck was switching in front of the car I was previously behind (about 10ft away). Since I was switching lane I'm suppose to spend up alittle bit, not to cut off the car I'm switching in front of. So I was going up to 40, when about 15-20ft away the truck was verring into my lane. Trust me 40mph is fast and 15-20ft distance apart does not give me enough time to brake and save my ass. My only reaction was brake and steer onto the island. If I just braked my car would have skid and hit more than just his side.

In the end, once I hit him my car was off to the side and on the island, saving my car from getting rear ended.

Oh yea when I mentioned "really really slowly"....picture a deer walking onto the road 15ft away and as your doing the speed limit your trying you best not to hit it....thats how it was with this pickup.

its hard to explain still....

That totally sucks man... Believe me, I know how you feel. Unfortunately, I don't have much good news to tell you, if your insurance company sucks then you're shit outta luck. I know that firsthand
I'm still thinking about doing something to the truck of the guy that hit me. I figure it's been a long enough time that he wouldn't point the finger at me anymore, but i'm still totally fucking pissed off about it...

That's cool I will send you pics once I can get them scanned. I've been looking at my car constantly and I coming to a conclusion that my car is not totaled. It's really hard to assume the car is totaled, I mean the engine runs, there is not interior damage nor anyting done to my engine or front end of my car (expect the corner light), plus the airbags didn't go off. I'm just glad I was able to pull away (in a sense) towards the island, rather then just braking and taking the pick up head on. It saved my car from being messed up from the front and the back...because after impact my car was on the island and away from oncoming traffic. My fender is banged up and obstructing the door from opening. The only serious damage that I know I can't fix on my own would be my suspension components. I dunno what exactly is wrong, unless I have my car on a lift, but what I see(or think is the problem) is that the tie rod (or control arm) is loose.

I just know the first thing I'm saving up for is a brake upgrade....does anyone know where I can get R33 brakes?

Suspension is easy to fix. Take the wheel off and look for bent/broken components. Only a the insurance company can deem your car totaled. If they do get the money buy it back fix it and use the rest to do whatever you wish. If they don't then fix the car. Simple.

I've been in your situation, it sucks. However you CAN turn this into your advantage. Don't make any desicions right away and have someone you can talk to that's not biased. A lot of
people with body kits/front ends get them from insurance.

If they deem my car totaled, what can I do to it?

I mean can I still drive it on the streets and still have it registered at the DMV?

Oh yea, I had to take it to the shop because I needed a car ASAP and my rental can only last so long ($500 credit).

damn I wish I could have talked to you a bit sooner. I want a new front end.

Oh yea, I had to take it to the shop because I needed a car ASAP and my rental can only last so long ($500 credit).

damn I wish I could have talked to you a bit sooner. I want a new front end.

It might not be to late if you take action now. Ask for the money instead of having them repair the car. They'll give you exactly what it costs to repair it. Upwards of a couple grand. I guarentee your suspension problems can be fixed for less than 50 bucks. At that leaves you with a rack of money to spend on aftermarket "read: cheaper than oem" parts.

How do you think a certain person got his a certain front end on his used to be s14

So your saying go to the shop, tell them not to do the repairs and ask for the money from the insurance company?

damn how can I pull this off if they have started on repairs? (which I think they did)

Upward a couple grand? how is that possible? Now you got me thinking.......

I'm still stuck with finding transportation while my car gets fixed (if I opted for those options).

edit: Now that I think about it, I'm probably stuck with my car getting fixed at the shop. Since the shop works with my insurance do give an estimate and repairs at the same time. Plus they work with my rental who is only loaning out the car as long as my car is in the shop. Also my case is not finsh and nobody has claimed to be liable (I'M NOT LIABLE). However its up to the ending of the case to decide which insurance will pay for my damages. Now if this was just me running into a deer or a friend driving my car and hitting a crub. Then I would collect the money and do the repairs myself, with some help of course. I dunno man.....I guess I'm still out of it.

What would happen if my car was deemed totaled?

1) it is not totaled
2) i don't think it will be much to fix...

the fender looks like it took on the most damage, the support behind the fender will ovbiously be crushed, it can be replaced. The bumper looks like it can be sent to the bumper shop, and reapainted, hood bearly got hit, but it looks like it'll have to be raplaced, get a CF hood out of it

other wise, the bumper looks streight, so i don't think there's any frame damage, if any, it was probibly minimal...

The important thing now is to find out what damage there actually is and how to buy it back. Here's some preliminary advice, but I'm sure others who have been though this will have more:

1) Make sure there is no frame damage and that what needs to be fixed can be at a reasonable price.

2) Check to see if you can buy it back - and if so, for how much. This may not be an option in VA - so you may also look into how they dispose of the wreck.

3) As for valuation - REVIEW YOUR POLICY!! Most will allow a claim for up to $1000 of mods (if documented). Of course, these are often removed and never reach the junkyard.

4) The way that the title usually works is that the insurance company will require you to sign over the title when they give you the check. They are then required by law to mark the title "SALVAGED" before they resell it to either you or some third party (i.e., junkyard). So keep in mind that if you buy it back, it will always carry the SALVAGED legend. That means that it may be more costly to insure and it will have about 60% of its value when it comes time to sell. Just something to keep in mind with this.

Chime in everyone!

Ok after checking out my estimate, everything will cost $3152!!

That's why they were about to write it up, but I'm going to tell them to just write me check for how much they are willing to pay for repairs, by the parts and fix it myself.

There was minimal frame damage, I just need to hammer in a few spots. damn I just want my car back so I can fix it up. The tie rods are the only real serious problem, I can buy the parts from the dealership, both of them (Outer, Inner) for $81.48.

Wish me good luck

when i totaled my 89 camry w/ 256,000 miles on it, and still running strong, they paid 2100 for my car, and i bought it back for 500, so techincally, they paid me 1600 and i spent 200 bucks to replace the hood and fender, and have an absolutly whacked out totaled frame, but i was driving that thing around as an ABSOLUTLE beater. but i think it should be about the 500 bucks range, because when i talked to my insurance company, they told me that's how much they sell all of their cars to the junk yards for. but than, again i'm in calinfornia, i don't know abou out there.

in sorry for giving you misleading info earler... but i can tell you, buy the car back and fix it yourself, look at my accidnet pics on my hompage www.mrclam.com/jeremy if i could fix that back for 2500 bucks (that's including the silvia front end for) you can fix that up easily. UNLESS there's frame damage that i couldn't see...

Ok I went to check out the car with GT SpecR and wel there is no real frame damage his fender are got bent a lil not that bad. They are trying to basicly rim him off.Hisrim was in great condition and well they are trying to replace it.His tie rd is completely fucked and thats the most of the damage he could get away with his hood as is and just slap a fender and a corner light and a tie rod on there and it would be all good.
