rear strut question

im installing my rear struts (kyb agx w/sportlines) and having a hell of a time tightening down the center lock nut. when i apply any torque to the nut, the strut rod rotates. i purchased a strap wrench to hold the strut rod, and that seems to have helped, however i am not able to secure the nut down as far as it was when stock.

that is as far as im able to tighten. when i pulled it off there was more like an inch of bolt protruding. the fsm says 13-17 ft lbs, but i put more torque than that to get it that far.

IIRC, I used some vice grips to hold the top part sticking out, cause it had flat spots that worked perfect, and the used an open end wrench to turn it. Or if you have a ratcheting wrench you could put that on there and then put the vice grips on.
