turbo recommendation for KA besides AMSgt32
im looking for another alternative turbo for my KA that has quick spool and capable of making 400 hp. Im on a $1200 budget. I was originally going with the ams gt32 .63ar but called ams and they said they arent gonna be caring this turbo anymore. this car is going to be primarily for street and drift events. turbonetics got there turbo but its already priced @ $914 and wanna see if theres anything better then that turbo for a couple hundred more.
specs of motor: -KA24de -stock internals -jgs log manifold -jgs 5 bolt downpipe -godspeed intercooler kit for KA24de -tial 38mm wastegate -hks bov -walbro fuel pump -sard 550 inj. -safc2 |

GT3071R for street, great spool, 350-400ish. GT3076R for a little more top end and a little more lag, 375-425ish. Both should be around $1,250.

I'd say gt30 but look into internals first, I know plenty of KA's can handle that power but id say its not worth the risk of getting a nice big turbo and then the following week throwing a rod through the block.

Call me crazy, but isn't 400hp pushing the limits of 550cc injectors?
I have a very similar setup(except for 740cc injectors, T3/T4, XS Power fmic, and Enthalpy ecu). I went with the 740cc's because my goal was ~400rwhp.

ill look into these turbos. i need to get my car running by this week because i am moving out of my house and need to get my turbo kit finished. i hear a lot of good things about the gt2871r but from what ive been reading is that it doesent fit with my setup but more towards SR's.

with a KA you can run the 86 AR of the 2871, most Sr's with that turbo see full boost around 4~4.2k and its a 400whp model... but with a KA you should be seeing mid to lower 3's on full boost.
for the mean time I say get a small turbo for the move... you know somethin cheap because stock internals wont hold even 300whp for that long and a safc2 really isnt "tuning" ....so I hope you send the ECU off or something better. if you want the 3071 I heard people love the 63 AR a lot

where do you guys find the g3071r for $1250? atpturbo.com has it for $1395. so this turbo is 84trim and i should get the .63ar and a 3inch inlet?

so im kind of leaning towards the gt3071r. best price i found is $1175. will it be a big difference compared to if i were to go with the agp turbonetics .63ar as far as spool and feel of driving it daily?

t3/to4e 50trim....quick spool, $615 on fullrace.com

so now im in a debate between a 50trim and the gt3071r. its mainly a street car and im thinking ill have plenty of power and to mention save money if i go with the 50 trim

GT series >>> T series. GT vs. T - What's the Difference? Turbocharger technology has advanced during the recent years, and at the forefront of that wave has been Garrett, leading the charge of modernization at the OEM level. One notable advance at the OEM's has been the shift from the traditional T-turbocharger to modern GT technology. Older 'T' products served as a workhouse for the aftermarket for many years, but now Garrett GT will revolutionize turbocharger performance and enable the reduction of turbo lag to virtually undetectable levels. The GT Evolution In the 1990's Garrett engineers developed a radically new efficient turbocharger baptizing it 'New Garrett Technology' aka the 'NGT' turbo. Over time the term was shortened to 'GT' and is now used to specifically describe the aerodynamically advanced Garrett turbochargers that cause the turbo to spool up to boost and accelerate your vehicle quicker than ever. WHY IS GARRETT GT BETTER THAN T PRODUCT? Product Simplification - T product typically contained 54 components, compare this with GT technology which has drastically reduced the number of components by more than 45% to average of 29! Reducing the number of individual parts drastically diminishes the opportunity for failure, thus resulting in smoother motoring. Journal Bearing - The bearing system in the GT turbocharger allows for improved shaft stability and less drag throughout the speed range. In fact, the GT shaft motion has decreased by 20%, which greatly improves the durability of the bearing system. Thrust Bearings - The new GT turbochargers have an increased load bearing capacity of up to 35%. This provides greater resistance to thrust bearing failure, especially when the combination of an oversized compressor wheel to turbine wheel is used. Improved Aerodynamics - The wheels used on the GT turbochargers increase the efficiency of the turbocharger system. Increased efficiency allows improved engine performance in each application. Wheel Trims - The GT range has several more wheel trims that the T range, enabling a more accurate match of turbocharger to engine that will in turn result in optimum performance. Piston Rings - The piston rings on the GT range are made from M2 tool steel. This material can withstand higher temperatures than traditional T range piston rings, making the GT product more appropriate for today's modern engines

buy my turbo,
Turbonetics T3/T4 48 trim, .63 a/r - $450 that should work for you, i was makin 260 wheel on my ka that was stock with the boost at 12 psi |

thanks everyone for your help! i ended up getting a gt 3071r w/.63 ar. now i just need to get a z32 maf and head out to the dyno. ill post dyno numbers hopefully on tuesday

i would go with 720 cc injectors
plus the safc2 is only designed to compensate for 100% injector size increase, so anything over 540cc's is maxing it out |
