Id' say always get an external one, also.
even thought the ebc does have a good boost reader, (also most shops usually also say to have a separate guage too) I have that boost controller, and it is always a little off, I have had 3 different guages to test and they showed pretty similar boost, but the controller always showed less. also if having a vac leak or maybe not installed corectly, would be good to have a separate guage just to be sure.
