Which 4-lug 18" wheels for my S13?

Yeah yeah, search search... but actually I have a weird one.

I've have rather large supply of 225/40 18" tires for my car that I plan on burning off for drifting. My car now has 16x8's 15mm offset with 205/55 tires. IMHO the offset is just about perfect w/o any mods to the fender.

Car: 91 Hatch
Lug: 4x114.3
Coilovers: Stance
Camber: nearly 3deg all around.

I plan on using the 225/40 all around - and would like to get a rim that is fairly cheap - as it's really just for drifting and I need a bunch of them.

I've considered a set of Sportmax 962's 9.5/8.5 - but would it be strange putting staggered rims with the same tires all around? Plus I'd prefer to be able to rotate the wheels. I've also considered getting some narrower FWD rims with 25mm adapter/spacers. Rota D2's have also come up.

Any suggestions?

for the money the 962 is the way to go. It weighs ALOT tho. but they can take a beating( friends curbed 11 times and it still holds air).

I say get REALLY nice grip tires on the front(go staggered), and then use all those 225's for sliding, that way you have more grip up front always and dont have to worry about switching them out.

Im pretty shure with 18s and coilovers you will need to modify the fender, just my idea. probbobly just a roll.

explain to me how you would rotate wheels with the same size tire but different width rims?

FWD wheels with huge spacers FTL. here what you do..save your money go 5 lug and buy something used from the wheels+tires FS section. i havnt checked in a while but theres mad amounts of nice offset/sized wheels for sale recently.

I agree with the good tires up front and "burn if you got em's" in back...
I ran a set of azenis for a while once they got to bad for me to trust them (aka sidewalls slicks), I burned em! They last awhile in front, depending on your style of driving and shit!

BUY 1 set of great front tires...
and run sport maxx in back! with your stock pile of tires...

Buy some proper 9-lug wheels, then you're not boned when you up to 5-lug, you get to keep the awesome wheels.

Touche.

Those wheels are at least 35lbs a wheel and are hard to break loose on a stock motor. If you have an SR then it's passable but they're not worth it IMO if you are going to drift with them.

just buy some smaller tires for the front, dont run the same tire size up front as in the rear. best choice would be to buy nice grip tires for the front..

You could always sell your 18 inch tires, buy some 17's and a couple tires, and then go dumpster diving for tires.

I would concur with this. Basically Rota's and Sportmax's are crap. Rota's break and Sportmax's are like stated above. Your better off fiinding a set of used JDM wheels from a importer. Or spending a few dollars more and getting some Works,5zigens or a couple of other brands of JDM wheels new. If you watch the group buy and advertisers special section you will find some real deals. You also might consider MB Weapons if you insist on going down the cheap wheel road. They are heads above Rota's and Sportmax's.

yes, sport max wheels are too damn heavy. i owned 962's when i picked up my first s14, they were really heavy. but with an automatic and stock KA it did turn the tires over if i cut the wheel.

Good stuff guys. I have a KA-T, so no problem spinning 'em. But yeah, the 962's are about 32lbs each. That is a bit silly. That's about twice the weight of my 16x8 Sportmax 501's!

I couldn't find the MB weapon in a 4-bolt. Work Emotions would work great. 18x8 in 28mm offset all around would work for me. But they are looking like $1500 a set!

Good thoughts on some "good" tires on front - but my pile of tires are actually really good tires.

Any thoughts on the Tenzo DC6 v1? They come in 18x8 +25 and are 22.5lbs. I think a set of bronze ones on my Red S13 would look pretty good.

Staggering is retarded if you plan on running the same tire size. Just pick up a set of 18x9, +20 (or less) of any kind you prefer.

8" is too narrow for 18's, even for 17's, 9" width should be minimum.
By the way I'm running 18x9.5 Sportmaxes all around for now.
If you want cheap 4-lug wheels, the 18x9.5 +15 concaved Rotas don't look bad either.

Agreed. Problem is I can't find any 18x9 +20 4-bolt wheels. Maybe everyone is right and I should convert - but even in 5-bolt, they don't seem all too common.

Thanks!! Will do. There it is: 18x9 20mm offset. 114.3x4. Now why can't I find that kinda stuff?!! I'll get a price, but I have a feeling that if it is well over $1K, I'd probably be better off putting the $ into a 5-bolt conversion.

My searching also came up with the Rota P45F in 18x8.5 +25. Looks to be about 20lbs (or 12lbs less than Sportmax)

Or just go 5 lug in the back, and pick up a used set of 4 18x9.5 somethings for the back, and run a 17x9 with a newer tire up front.

Then you can use your 18 inch tires for drifting, keep a high quality tire up front. Plus changing to different wheels, even if they are printed to have the same offset will not ALWAYS have the same offset, because of manufacturing differences, and lip sizing. A matching set of 4 for the back, and a pair for the front and you should be set, that way your not f'ing your alignment through wheel changes trackside.

Go high quality used. Oh, and 5 lug in the back is cheap cheap, like junkyard status.

Any chance you got a picture? How are you on clearance in and out? Spacers? Rolled?

I'm a bit concerned about clearance - especially up front since I run steering rod spacers.

And on that note - CAN I or SHOULD I do 18x9.5 Front and Rear with 225/40 wrapped around them all?

I just put the P45Fs in that size on a friend's car, they look similar to LMGT4s, though they are cheap and heavy he got five wheels (spare) and tires and came in just under $1100. Hard to beat that, especially when the car really was needing wheels of some kind.
