Fidanza shifter review
Searched for it while back but didnt come up with anything useful so i figured i'd wright up a short review. For the 50 i paid for it compared to all other shifters is great no question in mind, it does have some throwbacks though that may make some people think twice. After reading all the stuff that came up in serch on zilvia and 240sx forums i now see why so many people have issues with excesive slop.
Ill start with the negatives. First is the fitment, which sucks. You know those two slots on each side of shifter? They are too narrow and would not slide in to the factory shifter seat(plastic circular piece that has two pins on each side that are suppose to go in to those shifter slots). I used a cutting disc to widen them, a file can also be used but i didnt have one that was narrow enough to fit in the slot. Once those were adjusted it slid right in. When you do it make sure you dont make them too big, if you do then shifter will be sloppy. Second downside is the bushing at the bottom of the shfter. One that Fidanza provides is actualy too small for the bushing slot in the transmission. So to fix that you either have to get new one from nissan or reuse one from stock shifter. It fits with no slot on Fidanza shifter. Last thing i did not like is highth of the shifter, stock highth which is nt bad but i do prefer shorter shifters Thats about it, there were no directions and it took several combination of parts i got with it to get it right. To save you some time i'll give basic directions. Remove ALL shifter parts. Ditch/save all snap rings they will not be needed. Only thing that should stay in the transmission. Parts go like this==> metal spacer provided with shifter, plastic shifter pivit bushing/base, then actual shifter and finally plastic ring bushing. Last bushing can go two ways, if you have a lot of slop in the shifter flip it. Well thats about it. Overall shifter feel it is great. I've had ebay complete shifter/base before(bm knockoffs for 40-70) that make it real dificult to fill tranny fluid and i'd pick this one any day mainly because there is absoluteley no slop. Shifts are also much shorter, bout the same as bm knockoff I dont see the damn spell check icon up top so if you got a problem feel free to shove it ![]() Last edited by amp2345; 04-06-2008 at 04:47 PM.. |

Just because the shifter sits at the same heighth in the cockpit does not mean that it isn't "shorter". Making the shifter shorter is not the right way to shorten the throw. You change the ratio of the lenghth of the shifter above and below the pivot point. That is why that base has to go on top of the stock shifter base. Who cares if the shiftknob sits lower in the car?

i have the fidanza and for the money its great. didn't have to cut anything either, shifts are smooth and def a difference of course. the B&m is probably a lot better but for 200 or however much it is now, id rather rock the fidanza

My point was why would you want it to sit lower? If I could I would have the shifter sit right next to the steering wheel with like an inch of throw! I was not throwing anything directly at you! Why are you getting so butthurt? My post was simply to inform people that didn't know. By stating that it wasn't any shorter a lot of people will assume that the throw isn't any shorter. Relax man, If I wanted to attack you I would have done a better job than that. |

also tall shifters get in the way sometimes. I'd like a tall one though.

i got pissed because i felt like you attacked me, you said all the above things as if i was missinforming people. i dont belive i did such thing. i feel that for daily driver its ideal for shifter to sit low so that its more of a wrist shifting kind of thing. at least i like it that way, every one has different point of view and you had a very legit coment. i am sorry.

Honestly I don't really see a point to a short throw shifter in a 240. I can shift lightning fast with my stock shifter! I would like a solid shifter though.

if he likes it he likes it - if you dont - dont buy it. Either way - I also prefer the stock shifter. just replaced the plastic thingy on it and it feels awesome.
