The only thing I could foresee odd about doing it on the passenger side, is that it won't use the 'shock' itself, and isntead use the limit of it as a 'keep' or 'limit' sort to speak....

That's what I was thinking. Like maxing out the height of a shock, and pulling up instead of pushing down on it...

If it was indeed a shock that would be an issue, but as it's been said these things have no actual hydraulic or pneumatic tension, it's just a solid rod fitted into a hollow cylinder. It's the same as just bolting a piece of angle iron to the engine in theory, only you get some adjustment from it and it's really pretty.
