lifters, and cam profile questions

ok so when assembling my motor after my build I found out that the previous owner(from japan) has taken apart the exhaust side lifters and shimmed them to make them solid. Now i have run them for a while and they are really loud. I was looking to replace them with hla's but for 4 i could buy a complete set of solids. I am just wondering what input u have for me as to whether buying the shim setup and shimming all 8 of them to the correct .004". Or just going out and picking up a set of lash killer solids as they are quite a lot more. Or the tomeis which i believe are about 250?

As of right now i have hks 256 cams step 1 and a gt2871r .64 A/R turbo. I was thinking of upgrading to the larger 264 or 272 Brian Crower cams as the same time. I'm wondering if any of you have these set ups on the .64 A/R and how it is? 272 overkill?

also my top and bottom end are both built with bc springs and retainers and ras.

anyway all imput is appreciated
thanks
chris

yes i know hks are good money but its only a step 1 that came in the car. The way i have built the engine i could go with a lot more agressive cam to get the most power out of her. I would like to buy hks again but i mean 2 bc's are the same price as 1 hks and how often have you heard of BC cam failure?

Infinate, how is the idle with the 272's? I am also wondering if the 272's are made for solids as i know it all depends on the lobe grind and angle?

thanks
chris

I hear about bc cams failing all the time but.......... 99.9999999% of the time its do to improper instalation I've been running 264 for 2 years now and I love them plus if you do have a problem you can talk to brian crower personally and HE WILL MAKE IT RIGHT. bc fw btw dont start a cam war all the others are great too I've just had no experiance with them yet.

and yes you definitly need solids with 272 or you will kill your hydraulics in 5 months ...thats why I stayed with 264 plus no valve adjusing very 600 miles

belive me i used to drool over a set of BC 264's because of the price too before i really started digging. haveing your cams 15 degrees off because it was ground 15 degrees off isn't cool. having to buy a set of cams and then turn around and buy a set of cam gears to get the cams to even make the power they're suppost to isn't cool. which in my book makes BC cams not cool.

maaannn if codyace sees this he's going to be all over me for talking so much shit to him in the past about how great BC cams where. but that is before i did the up most important thing SEARCHED

I have the BC's and have not had a problem with them. Its not hard to install cams either. I would consider it an almost bolt on procedure on the SR. There are so many nice write ups on cam installs that you cant mess up. My cams make the powerband much nicer too. Im running a s14 t28 on my redtop with full bolt ons including a 1pc driveshaft to complete the drivetrain and I make 285whp @~15 psi. I was highly impressed with the BC's

I have been searching and have never heard anything like that. For a cam to be ground 15 degrees off is just plain horrible. Would you not have phoned up bc? Maybe they sent you two of the same? I have heard they stand by their product. As for the 272's i have heard some require grinding the head to make the lobes fit and have also heard they work fine without. Does anybody know this?
