different type of sway bars

Hey what's up yall. I have been thinking of getting a custom sway bar made from a suspension company. I really don't want whiteline swaybars. I was wondering what are some other swaybars that I can get that are beefier than whiteline?

I have suspension techniques sway bars (ordered them through Stillen). They are pretty beefy, and I am way satisified with their performance. I think they put me out about $280.

Maybe you should just have somebody make a bent tube and call it a sway bar. I am going to make my own anti-roll bars when I get around to needing new ones. They are really really simple.

As far as aftermarket sway bars for 240s [i]available in the US/Canada[/b] go, Whiteline is the "beefiest" you can get. Cusco also have some nice pieces, but they are not adjustable like the whitelines. (whiteline are fatter than ST, I believe...)

I am personally running a rear JDM (ooh, I used "the word") sway bar, which is a good deal thicker than my stock US base model rear sway. (sorry Dousan! you can take other stuff off the subframe if you need -- & don't forget to get the lower ctr'l arms for lindsey)

On that note, you may also consider JIC Magic's Sway bar mounts to stiffen them up as well; I've heard that they work very well.

I don't know anybody who owns the Cusco bars. I own several cusco componants, and have seen a good few others.. They make super top notch stuff. After all the complaints I hear about both Whiteline and Suspension Techniques, I'm probably just gonna go with the cusco units. They are expensive, but I like peice of mind, and I HATE knowing things I've bought for my car could be better.

where did you read/see this tidbit?
jic and tein doesnt make sway bars
and most people in japan DONT upgrade their sway bars

Many people, myself included, think sway bars are a crutch to try to offset weak springs. If you are running 8/6 kgmm springs, you really won't need much in the way of bars. If you are running a compromise spring (250/150 lbs.) then you need a bar. Many over there tend not to compromise as much.

ahhh that's what i thought. a friend of mine (Danio on these forums) has tein HE coilovers (8k/6k) and he said he noticed hardly any difference after adding the sway bar. i am running with eibach pro-kit and i noticed a pretty big difference after adding the sway bar. it makes sense though, since the eibach springs are not anywhere near as stiff as the tein's, and my car w/ sway bars still makes more body roll than his car did w/o sway bars. doh!

a sway bar is nothing more than a spring designed to help limit individual movements by oposing control arms. It's just a 2nd spring. (can't remember the actual name of the type of spring)

I've always been under the logic that too large of a sway bar can hinder the cars ability to manage inconsistensies in the surface of the road at high speeds, and can actually cause UNstability at times.. I personally LIKE have an independent rear suspension. just so long as it is kept under ccontrol.


I thought I had read somewhere that lower spring rates can actually help tires maximize their grip, and that so long as body roll is kept in check by some method (generally sway bars) that the lighter the spring the better the grip... not sure how that could be though.

Having a soft suspension helps grip on uneven surfaces. That said, suspensions most would call "stiff" like 8/6 kg/mm are pretty "soft" as far as race stuff goes.

I tend to agree with Mark that for a race car a sway bar would be little more than a crutch for weak springs. When working with production-based chassis and suspensions, though, there have to be compromises because things just aren't as rigid and low as they are in a dedicated race car. And for those of us with dual-purpose cars that have to be bearable on potholed Maryland streets it only gets more complicated.

I was reading an article about ALMS cars running something like 5000lb springs..

of course, they have to compensate for that massive amount of downforce they create
