Ninja 250 will be strapped at 65mph. Bad choice for carpool lane. And in VA you can't split lanes either :/
Akademik, Cycle Trader is your best friend right now. Dealerships make a killing off of selling used bikes, and they usually sell really fast. A Cycle Trader will find you 80 gajillion bikes that fit what you want, all here in socal. If you want, PM me with what you think you're interested in, and I'll pick up a Cycle Trader on my way home from work and do some shopping with ya. (that's what I've done for a few people on here) Then I can go with you to ride it before you buy it (since I have a licenese/experience/etc).

The answer to the "i wish my ninja 250 could do highway driving" is the ninja 500 or the suzuki gs500. Neither will punish you if you do something stupid like grab a handfull of throttle. they both handle ok and have been around so long that there's a million parts for them if you drop it. The ninja 500 has the bigger frame than the 250 and just feels more solid. It will fit a bigger rider as well. It also can either become sportier with mods or more touring with mods. I threw some bags on mine and use it as a daily. If your a small guy then they might be big but for the 6' dude they fit fine. You can buy a used 500cc bike for about the same as a 250. They're around $2000-2500 for one with maintenance, good tires and in ready to go shape. DO NOT FINANCE YOUR FIRST BIKE. You will get screwed and spend thousands more than you should. Dear god don't ever do the squid mistake of financing your gear into the price of the bike. It will cost you $500 minimum to get some gear. Get a $50 helmet if you've got a $50 head.

personally believe that financing any bike is a bad idea. Since motorcycles are a dangerous profession you will hate making payments on a bike that's balled up. The speed of bigger bikes is addicting but temper it with practicality. Think of saving up that 6-7k as an exercise in self control. Cause you'll need all of that when you buy a litter bike.

Get the best prices you can get anywhere. Then go to Wayne's and buy. Trust me or learn your own way. I've bought many many bikes from them. How much is 1.5 hour each way worth to you? Plus they give you free loaner truck for life to transport your bike. People who buy from Coleman's get sticker shock when they trade in or resale. You realize you could have bought a new bike for thousands less than you spent. |

Yeah, I've ridden with a few people on 250's before and when I'm on the freeway I sometimes forget that.
I've ridden on the freeway at a good pace and they were still chugging along with me.

yeah i had a 250 as a first bike. it wasnt bad on streets, but on the freeway, it slowly got to the higher speeds, and like dan said, you gotta downshift twice to speed up.
one thing i dont like, i get pushed around ALOT! the wind and all that since its such a light bike. i wouldnt mind riding a 250 around this summer to fuck around with in town but not on the freeway heres a chance to post whore my old bike. haha http://a184.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...905e80ae07.jpg ![]()

Haha yeah Dan, I've ridden the 250's.
And I stand by my statement that they're not fun in the carpool lane. They don't have the brakes or the hp for moving around safely at those speeds, in my opinion. I love the fact that you love yours. I'm envious of the cheap insurance, as well. I love the fact that I can wheelie past you in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd @ 80mph even more.

The bike is safe to take over 65. It does suck, but if people are tailgating you its not the bikes fault.

My bike goes 116 mph in first gear. :-(
jk. Ninja 250s are fun bikes. I would rock one if I had the extra money to get one. My r1 only gets like 30 mpg??

Yeah, after I put cams in my k4 GSXR1000 (already had full system, n2o, pc3usb, factory pro velocity stacks, -1/+2 gearing @ the track, etc) I actually dipped into the 20's as far as around-town MPG. At the track I guess-timated I got around 21-22mpg lol. That's remarkably shitty for a 998cc engine
![]() My K5 GSXR1000 has always given me about 33mpg around town and about 38-39mpg on long trips.

Aiight kids, Daddy's shopping for ya...
Socal: Here's the find of the day: 2005 GSXR1000 - same bike I had most recently - lists $6500, but says he'll take $5500 or better! http://www.cycletrader.com/find/list...-GSXR-92663096 2006 GSXR1000 - with a hard to find Yosh Japan pipe, looks immaculate - $6800 obo http://www.cycletrader.com/find/list...R1000-93105711 Norcal: 2003 R1 - good shape, super low miles, full exhaust - $4800 http://www.cycletrader.com/find/list...ha-R1-91414764 2001 GSXR1000 - Silver, lots of cosmetic stuff, decent mileage (7k), clean title, looks good - $5500 http://www.cycletrader.com/find/list...R1000-92966278 There's a shit ton of 2001-2002 GSXR1000s up for sale in the $6k range, which is too much IMO. The 600cc market right now is CRAZY with so many people buying their first bikes to help with gas costs. Now is a horrible time to buy a 600.
