It still seems far fetched with the new CAFE regulations right around the corner. I just honestly don't see the benefit of them doing that.

From what I understood, Nissan went with the VQ because it was easier to get it to comply with emissions

That and the VQ is pretty much one of the best engines ever engineered.

i like the 223 hp turbo that will never make it to the US.
![]() on a darker note: damn that ass is ugly! What is with Nissan right now and completely messing up the rear design of the cars? The 350z has a debatable one, the infinities keep changing lights every year or so, and the g37 looks fat (not wide, FAT, as in obese, not lithe and low, pudgy). ah well, thats what aftermarket is for *cough ebay altezza!!!!!!!!!!! or MadTyteJdM CuStomZ |

With the current gas prices and how manufactures are pushing for greener more gas friendly cars a 4 banger just makes more sense IMO. Something just edging over the 200 HP mark would probably be what's coming stateside hopefully

my money is sitting on a HR series motor bored/stroked to 2.5 litre motor...or a modified MR20de to MR25de motor setup for turbo (on both MR and HR motors)
i wonder if nissan is also considdering the QC engine as well (if its still in use...though i think this one has been phased out) |

that front wheel drive rumor made me laugh for a good 5 minutes, it would be like seeing Clint Eastwood in a film like brokeback mountain.
the last image of the new Silvia looks okay but I am not feeling the back. but it looks like they are going in the right general direction. |

Fact is Nissan has a long history of V series engines going back to the mid 80's. The Y44 all aluminum V8 was being produced in the 80's for the President Limousine line. They are as much rooted in V series technology as inline 6 tech. Actually, their V series technology, is so much more advanced than of their inline 6 technology, that your statement is ignorant. Their V6's have been winning World Wide awards for excellence for almost twenty years straight. While their inline 6 technology grew into something very good, it was not technologically superior to other peoples inline 6 technology. Their V6 Technology is. Nissan builds some of the best V6's in the World. some of the highest factory HP rated V6's in the world. While their inline 6's were great they were not as stunning as their V6's.

We're talking about heritage, which everyone has their opinion of what that means. To me it is the iconic and timeless designs of predecesors that came before that get engrained into my memories. When I think of Z heritage, the first thing that comes to mind is the S30 then right after is the L series. The I6 came first, all the new V technology and awards cant change that; you cant use facts to argue against what some person's opinion of heritage should be. |

Heritage is exactly what it is but now it is merely a glorification of the past. The "heritage" that you talk about stopped with the induction of the Z31 which we are now 20 years and 2 (almost 3) chassis past that point.
VQ is to Nissan as L is to Datsun. |

Nature vs. nurture: While Datsun's Z was glorified with it's straight-six L, today's Nissan Z is doing exceptionally well with their nearly perfected iteration of a V6 motor: the VQ.

in all honesty...the VQ is prolly one of the best motors on the market right now as far as any V formation motor is concerned
i cant wait to see how nissan takes the VQ technology and applies it to their new 4 cyl RWD turbo engine for use in the new silvia chassis im even excited for the weight distribution setup in the new chassis...it should be bloody awesome given how awesomely balanced the FM platform already is |

If you really want to start arguing heritage with me I will do that. Seeing as I was driving Z cars and 510's before you were born. Seeing as I was selling those engines when you where born. My point was that Nissan V series technology goes back farther than you were most likely alive. The point is their is equal heritage in Nissan's V series technology as their is in your oh so vaunted inline 6. Oh and a previous version of the Silvia actually did have a V6 option in it, in the late 80's. So discussion of the V6's do qualify! The other fact is, this thread is not about Z's at all. It is about the successor to the 180sx/Silvia lineage. That has nothing to do with With Fairlady's. Now if your going to take it off topic, to talk about heritage, but try to constrain it to only the heritage you care about? Well thats a little on the biased side of things.

I think what would be nice if Nissan can invite the Higher ups from Zilvia to see the final product and let a couple of us give some good feedback for Nissan to have a good footing in the marketing dept................

I don't want to even hear it...the Z06 owners are just a bunch of ZR1 wannabes that wish they could be in the same league as the GT-R. I am no one to talk as I will never be able to own a GT-R within the next 5 years.... I am just saying WTF does talking a bunch of crap on the internet do?

with drifting growing ever more popular among youngsters
they might just have to make a cheap turbo 4 cyl 25000 def not gunna cut it you know if this concept comes out it will most likely be a 6 ha they should sell it as an incomplete car w/o bumpers or any of that crap just to make the 240 fanboys happy you could make it look exactly how you want it Last edited by jmd8590; 07-05-2008 at 10:57 PM.. |

It can also be disastrous....like that Simpsons episode where Homer designs a car. lol. But yes, I have been reading of a lot of car companies doing that lately...with our luck they'll probably go to some other 240sx site though....
