Short Thow Shifter
I did a lot of search within the forum and found out that most people like C's or B&M short throw. Has anyone heard of a V2 short throw shifter. I am going more for the C's now but any input would be great.
P.S. What does notchy mean?? I have seen that a lot when talking about the feel

I personally have the tomei short shifter on my sr and I love it. Nice and short gears but not notchy feeling at all. Kinda hard to find though. Checkout rhdjapan.com for one, he usually has them.

I have the revised B&M shifter I guess (bought in '07). What I like about is the little effort required to get it into any of the gears. I used it on my SR20 for two years. Now that I'm going back to a KA24DE, I'll be using the shifter with the KA too. I'll post my opinion on it is with the KA if you want, but I have a feeling it'll be just the same as it was with the SR20. What I don't like about the shifter is the price, but then again, you do get what you pay for, and I got a nice product that delivered well. |

Doesn't make any sense, they're the same transmission.

i didnt know which one i got but if this is true i got the version 1 because it did vibrate at high rpm but all i did was take off the big metal bulge and but a little electrical tape under it and thats all. i didnt even know there was a version 2 i would have gone with that.

I am using the findanza short shifter right now and I love it. It was only like $60 or so, it DRASTICALLY reduces the throw, and it is bent so it is easier to reach. The only problem with it is that the bushing on the end of the shifter is too loose so you have to swap it with the bushing from your stock shifter if you want it to feel tight.

I have the B&M short throw on an SR.. the throw is just right. Plus B&M offers you a lifetime warranty.
I agree with the previous comment... there is no sideplay within gears. 5th goes in smooth. Honestly it all depends what clutch you have too... I used to run exedy stage 1 and it felt awsome. OEM feels rotten... And we'll see how the super single feels this weekend. |

save your self some money and just pick up a B & M knock off on ebay and swap the white cap bearing w/ new OEM white cap and throw a boot on it and it works just as good.
I know knock off's are gay but this actually is a cheaper alteritive. YES, i have owned an ebay knock off and an authentic B&M SS and they feel practically the same. |

i had an ebay knockoff b&m and i HATED it. vibrated at anything over 5,000, was notchy as FUCK,
and made a distinct noise when going into gear. i never knew about the bushing trick years ago, so i assumed that this was irreversible. i've heard a new OEM bushing fixes most of this. but in my case, at the track and events, i preferred the stock shifter any day. knockoff short-throws just took too much effort, while the stock one can be accurately slammed into gear quickly and easily. why do you think bubble knob trend started? jap cars using LONGGGG ass shifters cuz it's easier. short-throws are for drag-racing. BUT when i bought my new daily, it already had a mr. c's installed, and i love it for daily and moderate drifting use. i was completely against every short-throw ever, but changed my mind once i drove the mr. c's. slightlyyy tighter than stock, definitely shorter, and very accurate. i love it. i would definitely suggest a c's if you can find it. |

Well, the main reason on swapping out the white capped bushing was more of an reliablilty issue, then a change in feel. The one the knock off's come with is pure crap and will most likely fail in time if not swapped.
but when it comes to SS its what ever floats your boat. their already enough to choose from. and if you want close to stock feel, just go nismo SS. Anything is better then stock IMO. |

Common Misconception - I've had both out of the casings side by side, and the front half of the center section is the same, but the rear section is different with the gear selection fork setup. but basically the same transmission.

i run the nismo short shifter on my sr20, the gear throws are more precise, and about 15% shorter also lil more notchier, vibrates more as well then the stock shifter. nice piece but expensive...

Do aftermarket short shifters still have the angle? With the stock shifter, it seems like you barely move it up to go to 1,3,5. But it angle a lot when in the bottom gears. I would like even throw for all my gears.
