Just got a free CT26 Turbo (and 3sgte engine lol) Trying to build budget turbo
My best friend has had this 3sgte MR2 motor in his garage for about 3 years now. I was qurious what kind of turbo it had, I did some research on the CT26 and turns out I found a couple people with it in there KA's. His brother no longer cares about / wants it (drives an s2000 now) so I can have it.
Pics of the CT26 removed (havent removed the 3sgte mani. yet) ![]() ![]() I wanted to know if my understanding of what is needed to have this turbo up and running at stock or below stock boost (4-8psi) is correct (for a budget turbo kit): Using the stock SR side mount + Piping + BOV. 1 / 2 bills? Obtaining and inlet adapter (converts CT26 to standard t3) $60 SO AWESOME they make it... no need to custom weld a mani. Turbo Manifold (cheapest I can find) hopfully around 250-300 Custom Up-pipe (I think, might be downpipe... still learning) ?? Then cooling sys. (oil / water already have stock MR2 looking to fabricate onto KA) What else would I need? Again Im not looking for big boost, just whatever I can get by with, without having to change my fuel pump / injectors / ECU upgrade... unless these ARE needed. I have done some research on boards and google and am planning on hitting Barnes and Nobles for a couple good text mentioned in the forums. Any help is much appreciated |

No on the name part, and yep I am familiar with that pic... it was the first setup I found during my search thru the forums. That setup belongs to '240RACER' hes got a site

Hey nice turbo, looks a lot like mine. There are two problems with using a CT-26 turbo, one, it's not clocked correctly, since the toyota engines have the exhaust on the other side and two, the flange is not typical which requires some type of custom work on the manifold.
You can see what I did about both of those problems in that picture that was posted. I like the turbo, I think it's a very good size for a moderate boosting car. I wouldn't want to go much higher then 15psi with it. I ran it at 7psi which is stock for the wastegate, and it worked great.

you will just have to see if you can clock the turbo or not. My friend who drives supras and celicas with this turbo did not think it was a good idea to try and clock the turbo. The OEM turbos aren't as good at adjustability as a aftermarket one. if you look at the turbo on your car, you will notice that if you point the exhaust flange at the engine, the exhaust exit is pointed towards the front of the car. remember, the oil drain has to be on the bottom for it to work properly. that's the real pain, it isn't the way the inlets and outlets point, it's making the oil drain on the bottom while having the exhaust point in a good direction (towards the back) I don't think you will be able to use a regular manifold at all, even with an adapter. If you can clock it, then you might be able to, but I didn't even try since I was welding my own manifold anyway, it seemed easier to weld a odd looking manifold then possibly wreck the turbo trying to clock it and welding a regular looking manifold.
