a little cheaper alternative to lojack?

i was just curious if anybody in here has used this product?
Zoombak GPS Auto Tracker, Car Locator, Car Recovery, Security Device

i saw a comercial on tv about it, and what caught my attention is that it will send you a text message when it goes out of a safe zone..

has anybody had any experience about this or knows somebody that does?

it looks kind of kool. Dont know if i fully trust it though. How long does it take to txt/email after car arrives at a point or is stolen? What if you dont have txt or not a quick way to access email? Thats what i would like to know.

well from what i read, i guess you set up a safe zone like half a mile radius around your house.. and you can set up the device to get checked every 5 mins or 15 mins to see if it has left the safe zone.. if it did, then you will get a txt message/email.. then, the website will keep track route and location of the car in the website. so you will know where it went or its current location.

yeah, i read about that.. i was gonna do that. haha! but, this one is a lil cool it being able to send a txt message if it goes out of a safe zone..

i asked for a qoute on lojack.. gave me 699 and 999.. 699 is the one that doesnt do anything untill you notice your car is gone... 999 is the package where if you car moves with out your key, you will be notified. so, a bit expensive...

for this one, you can get it on ebay for 160 shipped.. 160 a year or so.. so yeah

if lojack were to be more cheaper, i wouldn't even think about this product.. plus, to be able to get a message when your car leaves a safe zone is kinda kool.. especially when you're in a mall, and you're car gets stolen. you wont know till you go back to the parking lot and your car is gone.. with this, you will get a txt message.

dont get me wrong, i would still prefer to get lojack, but not cant drop 700 bucks one time for the lojack. just looking for alternatives for now

I still think LoJack is a crock of shit. It depends on the monitoring company to report it to the police, and the police acting on the report. Most cops could care less about a car being stolen if they're busy taking a nap or getting head from a prostitute. I don't like the idea of paying that much money and then depending on someone who on a normal basis would pull me over, write me a ticket, impound the car, and beat the shit out of me, all for doing nothing. If they can hire and train police officers who aren't crooked and shady, cool.

so what would you suggest as an alternative?
personally i've never felt better about the security of my vehicles since i bought lojack with the early warning system (along with kill switches and a viper alarm and off street parking)

A garage. And never park your car anywhere you can't see it. Sad, but true. Half the thefts begin by seeing your car at some car event like a show or drift exhibit, all they then need to do is pay off someone in DMV to look up your plate or follow you home.

i entirely agree. but i feel much safer knowing that i have multiple lines of defense against theft. (now don't tell anyone about the rattlesnakes i hide under the drivers seat every nite!!! )

I was thinking trouser snakes.

i've want a knife, pointing outwards from the steering wheel, directed at the chest. If you don't find the right switches in time, an airbag mechanism will go off and lodge it in your heart, therefore stopping your attempt to steal my car.

Ooooh, maybe one from behind the driver's seat too. Attack from the front and rear! DP'd!

Blood is hard to get out of a seat though. It soaks into the foam and comes back up months later every time it gets wet with rain intrusion.

haha.. use multiple spikes behind the seat, so it will act like a on old school vice. haha! you just gotta change seats everytime..

but seriously guys, the early theft detection for lojack is a grand.. so, cant drop that much money.. so, im looking at this one..

the seats are lined with a hardening gel to absorb the blood and be easily replaced.

when i parked my car in a sketchy neighbor hood i would just pull my main fuse... not much of a hassle but worth it in comparison to the hassle of trying to get back your car after its stolen.

most criminals arent going to diagnose why your car wont start if they are trying to steal it... I mean they could try and load it up on a trailor, but most car theft isnt done that way. I understand what this thread is for, im just saying that there are free ways to keep your car from being stolen the traditional way, and if your car isnt stolen then there is no need for a tracking device. I think someone could proably refine the whole disposable cell phone idea though. but i would rather not even have to track down my car.

i think your thinking is the biggest mistake people can make.. the thinking of " i have enough security measures to keep my car from getting stolen"... thats what they call "accidents will happen".. so yeah, im saying, if ever the car gets stolen, there will be a way to track it.

i still haven't hardwired my phone, but the GPS tracking does work. i had the phone in my acura for a while to check it out.
i'll finally get around to hardwiring it "whenever the 240 is streetable again", which is becoming a very common phrase in my vocab
